Shams: Knicks the Only Team Giannis Desires to Play For Outside of Milwaukee; Both Teams Discussed Potential Trade

Post#1 » by Castle Black » Tue Oct 7, 2025 11:20 am

Looks like the Knicks pursued Giannis back in August, but didn't have the necessary draft capital required for the Bucks to seriously entertain a trade offer after burning most of their future First Round Picks on the Mykal Bridges trade.

Something to keep an eye on if/when the Knicks and Bucks both lose in the Playoffs this year though. Giannis will have only one guaranteed year left on his current deal next Summer.

Giannis and his agent are reportedly looking at what teams could realistically offer a trade package for him at the trade deadline in case Milwaukee is struggling again. Feels like there might be some legs to this.

And thankfully that didn't happen. I'm enjoying the parity the league has right now.

LOL imagine having the chance to get Giannis but burning 5 of your firsts on Mikal Bridges instead

Giannis is one of the few players you actually trade 5+ firsts and a great player for. Bridges is not.

I tend to agree. Hate when small market teams lose their star players. Hoping Milwaukee has a good bounce-back season.

I want to see Giannis in Europe, but I hope he is single team NBA guy. It does not matter how many titles you win, single team legends always remembered far more fairly.

This would probably have to be a three or even four team deal.

John Stockton, Elgin Baylor, Rik Smits, Reggie Miller would be more remembered if they won a championship.

I don’t know that I agree with that. All of those guys (minus Smits) are legit legends with or without a title.

LOL, imagine your team doing something, when they could have done something different years later.

that's not how it works anymore. if giannis wants ny, he will get ny.

ultimately, it won't be fair value. figure it's a deal involving kat and parts for giannis.

I won't blame the Knicks for blowing their picks on Bridges... a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, as they say. They made the Eastern Conference Finals and frankly they should be the favorites in the East this year. You can't just hold onto your assets forever in the hopes that Giannis wants to come a few years later. Bridges was there, they wanted him, they got him.

If Towns is best asset in any Giannis deal…I wonder if he isn’t needed to be sent to a 3rd team for assets. We all know Bucks need to win now (because they don’t own their future), BUT Bucks are also void of assets for a post Giannis era. Towns is 30yo and had his chance to prove if he could lead a franchise to more than just playoff fodder. That doesn’t scream an awesome asset to trade top 3 player in NBA for.

How about this…

To Blazers: Towns/2x Bucks Filler

To Knicks: Giannis/Kuzma/RW3 (or other Blaz filler)

To Bucks: OG/Grant/McBride/Clingan or Yang (Blaz choose)/All Kicks draft capital (lol)/As many Bucks picks back as Blaz will give

Blazers seems ready to win more now and Towns sure helps with that.

Towns/Clingan
Camara
Avdija/Murray
Sharpe/Thybulle
Holiday/Scoot

That is a pretty damn good Blazers team - even in West. *And still have some assets for an all-in trade next season with Dame back.

As for Bucks, stay competitive but restock the cupboard a little.

Turner/Yang
Grant/Portis
OG
Committee (McBride/Porter/Trent)
Committee (Cole, etc)

Knicks can easily get value for any of their starters in a Giannis trade, especially if this is the only team he wants to come to.

Remember when Raptors wouldn’t trade OG unless they got multiple FRPs and he went for IQ/RJ

The article doesn't really say anything, just that Giannis might be interested in playing for the Knicks and the Bucks didn't really have serious conversations with them. We're used to talking Shams info as relatively solid, but in this case if you read his words he's not really saying much.

You're right that the Knicks can still get together a good offer, but not for this reason. That was basically OG's value at the time, as an expiring solid starter who was going to command a huge contract. The Raptors mismanaged the timing of that deal and the Knicks were the beneficiary.

No real news here but it's nice to know that the league's best now see the Knicks as a viable destination.

LOL, imagine your team doing something, when they could have done something different years later.

Also many of those 1sts were weak. 2 of them were in the 20s and are already gone, the rest are NYK's own and the Knicks figure to be good to very good for at least next couple years.

I don't know why realgm loves endlessly dunking on teams who take risks that don't work out perfectly, but then kind of ignores the ones that do. Always feels small to me.
