This is really nothing burger and deserves zero discussion. Since August, Milwaukee did the Turner deal and we signed Bridges to an extension. There will be no talks to even speculate on until at least the trade deadline. More likely nothing will happen until the summer.

Exactly. All it took was a few years of boring, competent management and here we are. We just have to clear the low bar of not screwing everything up and players will look at us like the Lakers going forward. Maybe even more favorable to some since winning the chip in NYC hasn't been done in so long. So, if we don't do it now, there will be a time in the future where we have solid assets and we'll be able to make the superstar trade. And if we don't do it now we're still a contender and the favorite to win the east.

Seems like giannis is very aware that Jokic came in and stole his thunder. His push to the Knicks is all about his legacy. After his title run in 20/21 he was supposed to be the face of the league and lebron’s heir. He had a couple of mvp’s and title, it was all set up on a tee for him. Then all of a sudden Jokic makes this leap and pushes him down a tier and he’s basically mentioned as an after thought of the leagues best players. If he can win here in New York that’s going to change his standing in the history books massively. His run won’t be swallowed up by the end of lebron’s and curry’s career and the start of Jokic and OKC’s dominance. It also means he’s not scared of the pressure. He wants that smoke unlike Durant. A second title is gonna help him out regardless of where he goes but he’ll be mentioned forever if it ends up being here.

Report leaked by Giannis camp to try and start forcing some pressure on MIL (who doesn't want to trade him).

Word got out that Giannis wanted the Knicks so the Knicks at least picked up the phone and called MIL to do due diligence and figure out where MIL stood.

MIL let it be knows that they really don't have interest in a trade but they were willing to at least pick up the phone and listen if the Knicks were willing to do a godfather type offer.

Knicks (Leon and co) this aint there first back channel rodeo knew of Giannis interest but also knew MIL really doesn't want to deal him. A deal that MIL would entertain would mean a lot of moving parts. Maybe KAT but also moving pieces to 3rd teams to get draft picks like OG or other players. If the Knicks started reaching out to other teams to gauge interest in there players for picks to re-route to MIL that would have gotten out and caused a lot of ripples and the Knicks didn't believe MIL is ready to move Giannis so it would have caused a lot of in house leaks about Knicks trying to move other players.

So Giannis didn't think MIL picking up the phone was enough good faith so he finally decided to go public that he doesn't want to be in MIL and his long term goal is to get to NY.

Now how this plays to the deadline is anyones guess...MIL losses a lot of leverage next year when Giannis is expiring and won't re-up. My guess is MIL re-engages the Knicks if the season isnt going well (but Giannis isn't a dummy he knows a team lead by Kevin Porter Jr and Cole Anything at point isnt going to win anything of substance.

It sounds like Giannis wanted MIL to engage the Knicks so one foot is already out the door. Then you have the rumors that Giannis wife is moving his kids from MIL to Greece.

Basically Giannis is out of MIL its just a matter of when now. MIL is trying to hold onto dear life but its going to happen whether at the deadline or in the offseason. I think MIL is just trying to hold out hope that if they wait long enough he will open his list of teams so they can at least negotiate with other teams and get the best package possible. Instead of just settling for what the Knicks can offer them.
