The way the Lakers treat their future assets is criminal.
Honestly, they should have just done nothing....kept Dlo and the picks and then just let the season end, and watched DLo walk. They obviously had no 'grand plan' for DFS...so what a complete waste (didn't see that coming

).
I dunno man....you look back over the last 15 years, and it's a miracle we're still a franchise. It's been one dip-s**t decision after the next. But magically...mixed in with all the horrid decisions, are these crazy strokes of luck. Lebron decides to walk from Cle, and just sign here....no package of players going back (good thing, cause we had none). I mean....AD demanding to come here, and only here. We still managed to screw that up, and gave a kings ransom away...when the Pelicans had ZERO leverage.
And then we get this crazy gift of Luka in his prime dropped in our lap because the two GM's used to hit each other up in bar bathrooms???......I'm still not entirely clear on their bromance that led to them handing us Luka for the rapidly aging, oft injured AD.
Other than those 3 things....Lebron, AD, and Luka, have we done ANYTHING that we don't look back on and go "yeah, that was pretty dumb"? And let's be honest....None of those 3 things had even a molecule to do with our FO doing something brilliant, or anything like that. They were just bars of gold that fell from the sky. We didn't have some great young team that enticed Lebron...no we were horrible. Like 18 to 26 wins each season for about 4 years...it was embarrassing fielding that team year after year.
I mean.......do we wanna get really, really honest here (goes into whisper) and
admit our title was kind of a stroke of luck too??? That 6-8 week break and shortened remainder certainly benefited Lebron and AD more than any other team....can we all just say it? Look...we had a good team that year, no doubt. And we played the same games, under the same rules as everyone else...so I'm not suggesting the title isn't legit. But I mean...yeah. That was pretty favorable to our unique group of superstars.
I guess the point I'm making is that, we've had some serious BS lucky gifts drop in our lap. and but for those.....would we have even sniffed the postseason in the last decade and a half, given the actual "moves" our FO makes?
Can anyone name one seriously "good move"? Ok....just thought of one....giving Dwight his 2nd chance. That worked out great. Anything else? And I mean....was that really a "stroke of genius" there, or a super desperate ex-allstar willing to take the min, and a 1 year deal with all sorts of language that we could waive him the second he started up, right? Geez...we might wanna file that move in the "stroke of luck" folder as well.
When was the last time we signed some young guy, or traded for some young guy, and then he became an allstar? Like where is any evidence of a top-notch scouting team? Of a decent scouting team? We got semi-close with Kyle Kuzma.
Have any of our coaching hires been anything to write home about? The closest thing we had to a good coach was Vogel, and we dumped him to try and divert the blame for the award-winning Brick deal we made!
I think this is a discussion worth having here. But for these 3-4 bars of gold that fell into our lap....I'd say we've been essentially sabotaged by our FO year after year for the last decade and a half. I don't know when we're gonna get these new owners, but it can't come soon enough in my opinion. Deals like the one you mentioned are just drops of ineptitude in the bucket of suck, that is this FO. There was no plan. We let him walk! We got fleeced in the deal to boot!! Like we almost always do. We never have a plan.
I watch a few quarters of our preseason, and I can already tell it's gonna be another banal season. Enjoy Luka being Luka...and wait for Lebron to hang them up. And why would it be any different?? Our FO hasn't done anything creative, or brilliant since Jerry passed. They've just made things worse. It saddens me to see that Jeanie still wants to have a large role in Laker decisions moving forward. The ENTIRE .... ENTIRE....FO needs to be scrubbed. I mean....get new furniture. Re-carpet. New clocks.
