'Optimism' Kevin Durant Signs Extension With Rockets Before Opening Night

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Oct 8, 2025 8:35 pm

Kevin Durant's business manager, Rich Kleiman, has been in "constant communication about a long-term contract extension" with the Houston Rockets, reports ESPN's Shams Charania on NBA Today.

"I'm told there is optimism about a deal getting done before the start of the regular season," said Charania.

Durant is eligible to sign for more than $120 million over two seasons. Durant is on a $55 million expiring contract currently with the Rockets following his trade from the Phoenix Suns.

The Rockets are believed to be waiting on a Durant extension until reaching a resolution with Tari Eason, who is eligible to sign a rookie scale extension.

Durant went on the record at media day to express an expectation of signing an extension with the Rockets.

"I do see myself signing a contract extension," Durant said. "I can't tell you exactly when that will happen, but I do see it happening."

Who's optimistic about it? HOU fans shouldn't be. They have this great young core that has attached it's future to a player that is 37 and hasn't been on a relevant teem in half a decade. They should have been more patient!

Just because you are not relevant doesn't mean KD hasn't For the past 15 years KD has been one of the most unique and consistently players stat wise in the NBA! Even at his age there few if any players that put up his numbers! He cannot help if there is not enough talent on his team, injuries or players decide to not play. I guess you forgot his name it is KD and he is an all-time great player!

Easy KD. Everybody knows you are an all-time great player that still puts up incredible numbers when healthy. That is not in question. And your teams have dealt with some injury issues... But your teams' biggest struggles stem from a lack of leadership. I fully expect you to put up your 27/6/5. You might even win a round or two. But I don't think HOU has a shot at contention the way they are constructed and rather than fix the roster they went all in on you. I think it was a mistake, despite your greatness. Your timelines could not be further apart.

And... we are all relevant, even if our teams aren't. Keep your head up!
