I think that we have a Mayday on the Rebounding. Queta can't make us all better, by himself.
Looks like Celtics need another Big?

Nice win.

Brown and White had really good games.

Garza, Minott and Hugo all played well and did a lot of good things on the floor. Minott and Hugo are really active players on the defensive end in general and they showed that tonight. Garza set really good screens, rebounded really well and got to the line a lot.

Boucher played well. Baylor's shot wasn't falling again after starting out shooting well on his first 3 shots.

I want to see RJ more. He played well in limited minutes.

We will be fine in the rebounding area with our bigs. Garza had 10 rebounds in 16 minutes and is a good rebounder everywhere he has played.
Tatum not playing hurts our rebounding since he is a really good rebounder for a forward.

Al was an average rebounder for a big. KP was a below above rebounder for a big and was one of the worst bigs in the history of the league at setting screens.

Nice win overall. Memphis was really depleted.
On the negative, thought we were a bit too spread out and a bit too many no-pass possessions and questionable deep 3 attempts
On the positive, Hugo had great effort, great defensive plays

Super encouraging that JT is making the trip to memphis for a preseason game to support the troops
Glad C's Ball is BACK!

Derrick White still a beast on both ends of the floor.

We really need to see Queta play as the primary big man for a couple of months.

Maybe it's just about the whole team focusing on making sure they get the rebound.

The Pacers didn't have a player averaging more than 6.9 rpg last season.
Siakam was their leading rebounder at 6.9 and Myles Turner was just 6.5 rpg.

But the Pacers were +2 in rebounding differential in the playoffs and regular season.

That was about as coherent a first preseason game as you could hope for.

The pace was high, with a lot of blocks, deflections and steals. Until Derrick White went out, there were very few turnovers. Jaylen Brown was his full self. Boucher fit in well. Hauser is not a power forward; one rebound in 18 minutes. Tillman got a start.*

Bench guys:
Garza worked hard on D and looked less regrettable than advertised on that end. His rebounding was impressive. He got to the line a lot.
High energy Minott did everything right except for 3 point accuracy. The two ex T-Wolves outrebounded the starters 17 to 14.
Likewise Walsh was a positive in his brief stint before tweaking a muscle, and paired well with Minott. Maybe they can be complimentary instead of rivals.
Nice work Hugo! He needs to acclimate and obviously isn't a lead point guard at this time, but he shot efficiently while adding defense and force.
Scheierman did fine until the very deep bench started coming in, at which point his shot selection deteriorated.

The Toronto game should again be an odd starting lineup. One or both White or Brown will likely sit. Queta, Simons and Pritchard might all start, which would be a ton of fun against a pretty decent Raptor lineup. It wouldn't be a surprise if Boucher started again *like Tillman did in his return to his former team. It's "They the North," not "We" anymore for Chris.

Around the league:
Horford, Kornet, Holiday and Davison all played last night. They all wore the wrong uniforms, but as competitors, did their best anyway.

Don't know how anyone is surprised by this. Celtics lost KP, Big Al, Kornet and Tatum (to injury). Rebounding and interior defense will be issues all year.

Solid first showing

- Brown and White picked up where they left off and I think are going to have big seasons (possibly both all-stars if things fall right)
- Hauser was his usual self, hoping he takes the next step and starts creating a bit more for himself rather than strictly spot-up 3 shooter
- Boucher I think will be a good contributor. Much more athletic than I expected, high motor, etc.
- Idk everyone tried to tell me Xman was back. He looked better than last year certainly but not sure he is someone we can count on. 5 fouls, -2 in a blowout. Hope I'm wrong
- Liked both of the new MIN guys, I think both will be rotation players (though closer to #8-10). Intrigued by Garza and think he'll get good opportunities given dearth of bigs
- Hugo could be interesting in some spot minutes but he is still very raw; probably the most interesting prospect though
- Scheierman needs to improve his shooting a lot. You don't really see a lot of elite shooters with his form. Was hoping he could take Hauser's role long-term but he is a longg way from that
- No one else really stood out, surprised in a pre-season game missing a lot of key rotation players that Amari got no burn. Think he is g-league all year at this point

He's smaller than I thought -- looked more like a big wing to me at first. He's as unathletic as advertised.

Okay rebounder, active looking to score in the paint, not much rim protection, and in case Brian Scalabrine didn't mention it seems like a good screen setter

HE DOESN'T DRIBBLE THE BALL BEFORE SHOOTING FTS THOUGH WTAF

I hope it works out with X here. He really seems like a good dude..great locker room, team culture, vibes guy.

Even if he doesn't play a ton, he could be kind of like Luke, Blake Griffin have been in the past and like Haslem was in Miami.

I could see him sticking around as this guy who is a big we can throw in there sometimes depending on matchups and depending on if we have other guys out or if we're on a back to back or something..just a depth 3rd/4th type of big on a minimum contract who does his job when he's in there but is fine if he doesn't play and off the court is great for team chemistry and vibes and being a calm/steady presence in the locker room, at the practice facility, etc.

I've viewed him in kind of the same vein as Marcus Smart. Not a direct comparison, of course. But he has the mental processing do a lot of intangibly things, but he will need to embrace the connector persona rather than alpha to fit in IMO. Was hoping to see a reconstructed shooting form without the splayed elbow, but alas, that's not what they seemed to have done as an "improvement." Still want to give him a long look.

Minott looks like a non-shooter to me. If that's the case, he'll struggle for rotation minutes.

Hugo looked promising. Scheierman remains intriguing to me.
The most charitable interpretation is that it's ethnic cleansing and massive war crimes.

Tillman only being 20 months older than Scheierman seems pretty wild considering service time in the league.

At least in last night's game he was still very impactful, even without the shooting. He was hustling, bringing energy, grabbing rebounds, getting out in transition, making good passes, getting deflections, etc.

Kind of like the role Brissett played 2 years ago..he was a solid rotation piece for us, and was a non-shooter.

I'm just not sure Minott will be able to sustain it - it's not easy to continue to be *that* impactful, as a non-big, non-shooter.

If he can sustain it, he should be able to get mins.

If not, he might struggle to stay in the rotation.

Or maybe he ends up improving his jumper - we'll see..

Scheierman's problem is not shooting, it's shot selection. Scheierman takes a ton of bad shots. If he doesn't clean that up he will be sitting on the bench most of the time.
