You trade Scottie if you can get a star/superstar that isn't on his last leg (i.e. not for KD)

The problem is the system's changed. Now he's a ball facilitator. Good for at least five assists a night.

I'm ready to move on for a good trade. We've given him a fair chance.

His current value is probably a lot lower than most people think. We need to rehabilitate it back up before we do that.

He's not untradeable, but I'm not actively pursuing trades. If there's a move that makes sense for the future and current team construction, then sure. Gonna need to see a lot more from CMB in the regular season to even broach this idea though.

Some people are just dumb. They can’t help it.

We got an All-Star to pair with Scottie, so let’s trade Scottie now and go back to being sh*t.

Not to mention, his value is probably at an all-time low, so it makes even less sense to trade him right now.

Give the guy an opportunity with this new look club and see what he’s made of.

I’ll wait till at least the infamous 20 game mark before make any conclusions.

It's a bit funny looking at our multi-year salary and seeing Poeltl and Barnes, 2 guys who can't shoot, as the longest term contracts going to 2029-30. That's certainly a teambuilding approach. The Raptors have to take chances on good shooting prospects, which is why I was ok with the Dick and Quickley acquisitions even if they don't pan out.

Anyway I'm not on team "Scottie must go", but it's not a take I'm surprised to see on realgm where we look at things like multi-year salary tables. And Scottie being on a max extension now invites a LOT more scrutiny. CMB looking awesome doesn't hurt.

No. But its also not a crazy thought anymore. He's not the young talent on a rookie deal we're looking to build around anymore and he's also not the current best player on the team. And if youre neither, you can always be moved

That said, im high enough on CMB that i think Scottie's time here will come to a close eventually.

Having lived through seven pointless years of Bargnani, where a lot of us weren't nearly critical enough of him, I worry the Scottie situation isn't that far off.

I do really like him as a player, but at a certain point, if it keeps being a situation on offence of trying to get the square peg into the round hole, there will be a choice to make. The worry is that choice will get pushed to year 7 or 8 rather than be dealt with over the next two years.

The one consolation is the team is hopefully good enough to offset some of the challenges his fit creates.

Let the guy play the season lol
I actually think BI is going to help him for some easier buckets. He wont be in the same role as last year - at least they acklowedged that

Well, one thing seems to be certain right now is that we got rid of his Colangelo (Masai) who had a lot of unwavering faith in him. But that’s Masai, he always believes in his guys and it worked out far more often than not. Though it makes how he handled the Siakam situation just so weird.

Would any of these guys be available? Probably under no circumstances can you get any of these guys for Barnes...
Amen Thompson
Suggs
Paolo
Franz
Sengun
Chet
J Dub
Cade
Mobley
Flagg

Not so sure about Brandon Miller or Jabari Smith Jr

A few guys who maybe would be available if their teams start the season poorly that I could see maybe trading for Scottie:
Trae Young
Jamal Murray
Sabonis
Ja Morant
Lamelo
Herro

If he gets moved, I think it's likely it would be more of a lateral move with another team that also has someone underperforming their perceived talent or not fitting in optimally where you hope a change of scenery helps both. I think finding out a trade partner in this situation is pretty difficult.

I don't think we are getting a Scottie + assets type deal for an upgrade and an expirings + prospects/picks type deal isn't likely either right now when we are trying to compete again.

Most people are on board with seeing things play out first, but there is some consideration that has to go into what if he repeats or even regresses from last season and the team sucks again. That contract becomes potentially a neutral/negative asset in that scenario.

If you’re getting Devin Booker or Giannis back then sure, otherwise absolutely not.

I think we have to look at Barnes in a different light. Hes not going to be a Kawhi type. His role is a supercharged Aaron Gordon with defence and playmaking as his primary role.

At a supermax contract and the highest paid player on the team making 224 Million.....He would need to be much better than a little bit better Aaron Gordon....I think thats the issue here.

He is still young but we need him to be alot more than what he showed so far at the contract....Facts are Barnes is not a top 15 or a top 20 player in the league....So hes deff moveable for the right package.

The guy you are describing is not worth anywhere near 25% of the cap. His playmaking is going to drop off as he gets superseded by Ingram in the pecking order. The better this team gets the fewer offensive touches Barnes gets (or deserves).

If Barnes is Aaron Gordon-adjacent he’s a bad contract.

It's probably too late, people are lower on him now and he's vastly overpaid
