He was coming in hot but the injury rate is concerning. He might not be fully ready physically. He doesn't need strength or size, he needs to make sure he is durable.

He makes passes you don't see watching on TV, Scottie does that sometimes but CMB does it more. He always makes the right play it reminds me of Jokic.

He needs an immediate role in the rotation and he should get heavy minutes. We have to preserve Poeltl and keep him healthy if we want to have a good season. I would strongly consider capping Poeltl at 25-27 minutes. Maybe something like this against weaker teams?

Poeltl - 25
CMB - 20
Barnes - 34
Mamu - 17

It would help develop CMB, let Barnes still get his minutes, develop value in Mamu (sell him to the team he wants to sign with?), and keep Poeltl healthy for important games and a long season.

He wasn’t very good tonight, but why wouldn’t we keep him? He’s signed to a guaranteed contract. Unless you mean beyond this season?

Love how many of his assists have been for 3 pointers. Puts pressure with his drives than has the awareness to find the open man at 3 point line when the defence collapses.

Is there any actual evidence supporting this? FTA per48:

NBA: 21.7
NCAA: 25.9

NCAA teams are fouling more on a per minute basis. If the refs are “letting them play” that doesn’t really line up with these stats.

You might have more of a point regarding international ball but if you look at team USA’s free throw rate was around 22%. The NBA league average FTR is 24%. That’s not a huge difference. Most of team USA had similar FTR’s in the Olympics compared to their NBA FTR. FTR for Team USA’s top scorers vs their recent NBA FTR:

Lebron: 28%/26%
Durant: 32%/32%
Steph: 12%/24%

Only Curry fell off in terms of drawing fouls but that because 77% of his FG were 3’s. Canada’s top 3 scorers (SGA, RJ and Brooks) all saw big jumps in their foul drawing at the Olympics. Wemby had the same FTR in the Olympics as he did in the NBA. Giannis had almost exactly the same Olympic FTR as he did in the ‘24 NBA season. Jokic increased his FTR in the Olympics.

It seems like NBA stars are doing just fine drawing fouls at the international level.

It would be interesting to see if there is a difference in where the fouls are occuring & what positions are getting the most fouls.

When I watched Shead's defensive highlights from College, he was an absolute beast defensively. His on ball pressure was very aggressive & physical. It was impressive, but my first thought was "he won't be allowed to play like that in the NBA" & sure enough, that was the case.

I’ve always been of the mindset that college defense only looks better because most of the guys they are guarding suck. The type of pressure you can apply against sh*tty NCAA players doesn’t work against legit NBA players. Everyone’s defense looks better against worse players.

I also don't think that this is the whole story. Are they better? For sure. The NBA wants to highlight scoring & they want their stars to score, so they made rule changes. They didn't take away hand checking & make a 3 in the key rule to help defenders.

In College, they demand that the players play "all out" on defense while they are on the court. The NBA doesn't focus on defense, therefore you have guys that don't focus on it.

Gone are the days of having a defensive specialists like Dennis Rodman on your roster. He'd foul out by half time every game if he played the way he played with the Bulls. There aren't as many elite defenders in the NBA anymore because of the shift towards offense.

Look at the last Raptors preseason game. The defensive pressure got to those guys & they ended up losing the game. Defense like that still works if the game is called in an unbiased way. Unfortunately when you try to defend stars like that, the refs usually bail them out to keep the defender in check. The NBA wants their stars to score. That's their marketing plan.

His GF Chloe Kitts just announced she tore her ACL and will be out for the season. Huge loss for South Carolina

Maybe she’ll be able to attend more of CMB’s games during her rehab

Oh no...they were supposed to play for the Raps and Tempo and have 10 Canadian children, where 9 of them would make the National teams for men and women and the other would paint or something.
