Re: Rookie Watch - C/O 2025
IIRC Bailey pretty much said in no uncertain terms before the draft that he didn't want to be here. Maybe I'm coping and all about Morey passing on him but our track record when dealing with prima donnas isn't great so I understand why he did despite Ace's talent and fit with the team. VJ on the other hand, is cut more from the Maxey cloth in that he'll work his ass off to improve his game.

Bailey is balling while our rookie is out, already with hip problems. Sixers are cursed lol...

He REALLY didn't want to be in Utah either, but did that stop Ainge from taking him?
Not taking him because he "didn't want to be here" is a fireable offense. The lame excuse of a COWARD.

I think Morey knew they had the inside track on Emoni Bates though....so there's that. Plus the Governor called

I’m already getting Iggy 2.0 vibes with VJ. I think he could easily end up being a great playmaker & elite defender but never reaches primary scorer level on offense. The fans criticize him endlessly for what he isn’t so he ends up leaving after his second contract where he becomes a beloved winner on a championship team.

The almighty God would look worse on this team compared to whoever we passed up for Him.
Yes, HIM.

Yep. I can see the Iguodala comparison. Also goes along with the idea of VJ remaining a mediocre at best shooter.

True, but remember we're the Sixers and for whatever reason, any time we acquire players with overinflated egos, it never seems to end well. Simmons, Harden, and possibly Embiid when all is said and done. Where as under Ainge Bailey of course will win multiple MVPs and titles.

That’s fine and all. But he was drafted #3 to be a star. That outcome would be a disappointment if there are players drafted after him that do turn out to be stars. Taking in to account many fans were screaming they were more likely to be from the outset.
always a jump shot away.

Never said that wasn’t understandable, just noticing the pattern in front of us. Anytime you draft high in the lotto and don’t come away with BPA is obviously disappointing.

These forums have gotten so bad over the years with the Bi-polar $hit. Edgecombe is gonna be fine. This isn't a degenerative hip disease that's going to kill his career. He isn't Iguodala part two and what exactly is wrong with that? He played longer than anyone in that draft, he would have probably gone 2nd overall in a redraft only behind Dwight Howard.
That being said, I think Edgecombe is going to be pretty damn good. All star good.

For the record, I would be very happy if VJ had a career like Iggy.

Re: Rookie Watch - C/O 2025
I still believe VJ can become a star, just not in year one. And specially not after two preseason game. Nothing’s changed there.
The reports out of training camp about his outside shooting are very encouraging, and he’s already flashed real playmaking and passing ability. In his two preseason games, the scoring struggles are understandable. Unlike some rookies who get plays run for them, we’re not designing sets for him to score, and that makes sense given our roster. With George, Embiid, and Maxey on the floor, you’re not drawing up off ball actions for Edgecombe. Combine that with poor spacing and limited offensive flow, and it’s no surprise his scoring looks rough. Once the team’s spacing and overall offense improve, his numbers should follow.

Re: Rookie Watch - C/O 2025
If Andre Iguodala could shoot, he’d be as good, or nearly as good, as Anthony Edwards. With a reliable jumper, he could rise over defenders, and teams couldn’t send multiple defenders his way because of his ballhandling, passing, elite vision and ability to find the open man.
20ppg on Iggy’s era is like 25ppg in this era.

Not saying VJ will be able to overcome it either, but the league has not game planned for a single rookie yet. So we really won’t know their value for some time. Any big scoring games in the preseason, while encouraging, really doesn’t prove anything.
