Top-4 requires A LOT to go right for Miami and for a few teams to underperform/get plagued with injuries. I predicted 6th in the prediction thread, mainly because I think Miami moves up sort of by default, with Indiana and Boston getting worse. I also think Detroit has a shaky outlook.

If Philly has reasonable health -- a big if -- I think they finish 4th behind Cleveland, NY, and Orlando. From there it is a crap shoot, so Miami could finish anywhere from 4th to 10th, imo.

Is there even a correlation showing that faster pace will lead to more winning? Feeling like Ian Malcolm over here asking myself if Heat coaches were too preoccupied thinking whether or not we could play at a faster pace, and didn’t stop to think if we should.

There’s a very small correlation between pace and offensive rating so, generally, no, playing faster doesn’t automatically make you more efficient.

But there’s more nuance to why a young team should lean into a quicker tempo:

i) It simplifies the offense. More pace and space means less complex half-court execution, fewer reads against set veteran defenses and fewer chances to overthink or mess up.
ii) This roster is young, speed, stamina and bounce are its natural strengths. Playing fast lets them compete above their experience level by leveraging those physical advantages.
iii) A higher pace means more possessions and more possessions mean more reps. That accelerates learning and development.

We’re not expecting them to contend right away, but at least make it an exciting, growth oriented season. Watching a young team grind through a slow, muddy offense helps no one, not the players developing and not the fans watching.

If they cant run professional and really college level schemes in the NBA that is doom for failure. NBA players are too smart to just run a highschool level offense.

Almost every NBA team runs basic early offense sets, drag screens, handoffs, delay actions, the difference is in the timing and decision making, not the playbook.

This roster doesn’t even have that go to guy you can dump the ball to when the game slows down, which a lot of veteran teams rely on in the half court. Playing faster helps them avoid being stuck in those stagnant late clock possessions where their lack of creation really shows.

Playing fast isn’t about dumbing it down, it’s about developing through pace and putting players in situations where their strengths matter.

Pass on Carter at this point. Also to be fair Dru can shoot and did a decent job running the offense before he got taken by injuries. People sleeping on Dru's game. Hope he's not done physically this season after all the injuries and gets a couple of years in the league.

Kinda thought this after posting tbh.

Between Davion, Dru, Kasparas and (ugh) Rozier, we have a fair bit of depth at the Point and should prioritize development minutes to Kas at any rate.
