Re: Tre Johnson: welcome to the DMV
Johnson has that Arenas up at 3 AM shooting 1000 3s mentality. They're trying to kick him out the gym for shooting too much. Kid is going to be a BEAST!!!!!!!
Tre also said he wants to shoot 90% from the FT line this year because he didn't do it in college.

Re: Tre Johnson: welcome to the DMV
After the Keefe and CJ segments comes a Tre
segment which I found to be excellent. Tre is
a really impressive guy who I find really easy to
root for. Now all that may not matter once the
games and his career begins in earnest. But his
approach and attitude is pretty spot on. If for
whatever reason he doesN'T become a solid or better
NBA player, it won't be because he's a head case.
Side note - in the beginning when Keefe is taking
questions, they could ask him about Wiz game TV
coverage. Obviously that's outside of his lane and
he can't diss the Leonsis folks. My only point is that
in order improve team support and build the fanbase, they're
not helping themselves with how it's looking now.

That came up in several of the Texas games. The coaches had to prevent him from working too hard and not having enough energy left for the games.

Re: Tre Johnson: welcome to the DMV
I just know this kid will put on a show like Ace did last night. I honestly would be shocked if he looked like your typical 19-yr old rookie. My expectations for Tre are pretty high.

Absolutely. I have highly unreasonable expectations for this kid, and I hope he exceeds them.

Re: Tre Johnson: welcome to the DMV
I have high expectations too, but more so for the long term rather than the short term. I think he'll be solid from the start, but his greatest talent may be his work ethic. He is just going to keep getting better over time. AFM's Gilbert Arenas analogy is seems appropriate. If he is a workout psycho like Arenas was, there isn't much limit on his upside. And not only does that bode well for his individual development, it should also be a key component of a new Wizards culture.

For $1000, which Washington Wizards 2025 1st Round draft pick had an Inauspicious preseason debut?

Re: Tre Johnson: welcome to the DMV
Who is Johnny Davis?
(Ken Jennings)>>>
"No, I can see how you confused the first game performance of the two. The correct response is TRE JOHNSON. His Wizards debut against the Toronto Raptors could be described as Inauspicious or underwhelming."
HUMOR FOLKS
I remember Otto Porter struggled mightily at first. IIRC, so did Rip Hamilton. Physically slighter guys have a time getting their footing to get squared up.
Tre Johnson is going to be fine. It will take time.
He's not a rim rattling player, but once he makes a shot, the guy will be perpetual motion. He's going to score a ton despite the INAUSPICIOUS start. I just thought yesterday's result was funny. Our expectations reminded me of Charlie Brown waiting for the Great Pumpkin. We instead got Tre disguised as Johnny Davis.

Typical Wiz fan cognitive dissonance. I believe in my heart Tre will be great from the start. But he’s not passing the eye test. He looks smaller than the rest.

It's not our fault that you have some unreasonable expectation of Tre's size. Tre is 6'-4.75" with a 6'-10.25" wingspan. This is not a perception, it's a documented fact. That makes him NBA guard-sized, but not really forward-sized. Nobody ever said otherwise. He is about an inch taller than Carrington, with 2 more inches in wingspan.

Tre will never gain weight and muscle? He’s just starting out, and the sample size next to zero.

Re: Tre Johnson: welcome to the DMV
At first glance Tre can be disappointing. A lot of times he looks like an old man the way he shuffles up and down the court. But his skills are high level and that will show once the season starts.
My primary concern about him is defense. Will he put in the effort, and does he have the capability, to be just an average defender? Not sure.
A lesser concern is finishing inside 8 feet. A lot of times in college he would get into traffic and i could tell he just didn't know what to do. In summer league I noticed him using a decel move to clear space for his shot which i didn't see in college. He made a couple of nice moves to get free inside last game but just missed the bunnies.
He isnt going to be a guy who can put a lot of pressure in the rim but he will get into the paint a lot because people will play him tightly on the perimeter worried about his jumper.

Why are so many of you taking this kid apart?
It's just the identical opposite from a bunch of people predicting greatness from him before he'd ever played an NBA minute!
No one has the slightest idea how this young man will fare in the league.

People are always over reliant on first impressions and early returns. Rookies should be allowed to be terrible for the first half of the season before the fans start to grumble.

Re: Tre Johnson: welcome to the DMV
I’m not trying to tear him apart. I believe he’ll be great. And i’m not arguing his height and wingspan. But he’s slight of build, looks weak defensively, doesn’t get up impressively when he gets to the rim and plays small. He’s not passing my eye test. I’m more disappointed than anyone and pray fervently my eyes are wrong. It’s early days and he can keep growing and getting stronger. I just hope he’s more than just a knock down shooter.
Keyshawn and Riley, on the other hand, are passing the eye test in terms of looking longer and playing taller than i expected.

What was your "eye test" telling when he was in summer league? How about when he was at Texas?

Like every other rookie, he deserves a full season of play and a off-season weight training program to judge his potential.

What was your "eye test" telling when he was in summer league? How about when he was at Texas?
I never watched him at Texas. In Summer League he looked pretty good to me. A confident bucket getter with a smooth stroke.
But he was number one in the agility test at the combine and has exceptionally long arms, but those traits didn't stand out in summer league or preseason so far. Maybe I'm missing it. Nothing would make me happier.
Has he wowed you?

Agreed.
