Yes, and that's part of the systemic imbalance as well. If profit is the only motive and we believe the imbalance will never change, then what hope do we have that the playing field will never not be stacked against the Brewers?

There isn't any. And not enough people care. That's baseball and yes, I think it's the way it is.

Change requires incentive. There is none.

Again, even if Mark ups payroll, he ain't competing with the big boys. Be better off not followig the team. Maybe boycotting changes something? Or gets the team relocated to a larger market that can sustain or accept never winning a pennant.

This is too absolute IMO. You don't hand the trophy to the team with the highest payroll. Could we legitimately compete if we were 40M higher in salary slots this year?

To be clear, I am NOT stumping for the current system. Baseball is broken. I just don't think it changes anytime soon if ever, so I'm most focused on/upset with what's right in front of us.

I think for me it is a little bit of everything.

I do think our ownership does not always have to punt a guy going into free agency. I get sometimes the long term deals don’t look good later on like Yelich’s may, But certainly feel Mark A can absorb, for example, an Adames 25M/year additional this year. Its not going to put that much of a dent into his growing team value investment of the team. This is not an Ortiz vs Adames thing, its an example of not paying a player that maybe makes the lineup better late season or at the very least is a clear upgrade to current option.

On the flip, I think the problem isnt so much our team as it is the Dodgers can just toss money for role guys at the bottom. A guy like Tommy Edman is making more than our entire infield last night. At one point all their hits were from the 5-9 guys and ours were automatic outs. Thats where the payroll discrepancy hits a bit.

Plus sucks when we swing and miss. Hoskins, great guy, but that was a signing that didnt land. Our margin for error is so fine.

This. When your bottom-5 batting order guys are as good or better than most teams' top of the order, that's just a crazy advantage to have. It's just way too much of a cheat code when there's zero repercussions even when they "whiff" on a free agent signing. Like, Michael Conforto and his $17 million are just sitting in the dugout right now, and while I'm sure the Dodgers are bummed that it didn't work out, go ahead and read a bunch of articles about predicted offseason moves and I stroll across this gem:

So, it’s clear that Tucker would be a huge upgrade from Conforto. He’s also four years younger, meaning he’s still in his prime with no huge drop in talent anytime soon.

The only thing is he’s going to want a payday, but knowing the Dodgers, that’s not a problem. Hopefully, they call him up this offseason and see if he’s open to playing on the West Coast.

I mean....yup. "Hey guys, this aging vet we vastly overpaid didn't work out so I guess we'll just go out and *checks notes* get the best available young outfielder in free agency to replace him".

**** this league.

I would roll with Mis tomorrow night. When he faced them in July he allowed a leadoff homer (a Brewer trademark), then shut them down with 12K. I'm not saying he would do that again and sure he could walk a bunch of guys and dig us too big of a hole but I'd still take that shot over Quintana.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

No but also why the hell are we asking the manager's kid questions? Stop being dumb.

Not sure we can draw too strong of conclusions on ratings increases since Nielsen just changed the measurement.

Nielsen is rolling out an expanded methodology to measure viewing audiences, and sports will be a big beneficiary.

The general expectation is that live sports will see a general audience lift of 5% to 10%, but Nielsen certainly is not guaranteeing anything to anyone. Rather, the goal remains to provide a fuller picture of the market.

Interesting! Thanks for this. My SO is in the industry so I probably should have been aware.

It seems like it's less about inflation of numbers and more about correction to how people watch now; still, noteworthy in either case.

Guys can catch heaters. They proved that this season. The key, they need to settle down. Their CNS is imbalanced.

We faced Glasnow twice in July, 11 innings, 1 ER. Our team is 10-71 lifetime against him. Turang 3-8 and Jansen 2-6, 2 homers, 3 walks, are the only 2 with any success.

I refer to them by their contract numbers. Tomorrow night the Crew faces “$136 million”

So I'm in Hong Kong, thinking im about as far away as it gets from Milwaukee and the crap of this series.

Im enjoying an oktoberfest networking event, feeling at home eating brats, sauerkraut, pretzels, pork knuckle etc.

And the guy across from me suddenly says, "Milwaukee huh... Ya my dodgers are looking pretty good against your brewers."

FML I'm 10,000 miles away from the US but somehow sit next to a dodgers fan from LA. :banghead:

He kept trying to bring up the game and I'm like... Its over, and he kept trying to convince me it's not going to be so easy... :-?
