Is LeBron really about to play two more seasons?

Post#1 » by NyKnicks1714 » Fri Oct 17, 2025 7:20 pm

I was sure the '25-'26 season would be his last, but the season is about to start about to start and he hasn't announced his retirement plans. It's possible he might decide and/or announce this will be his last season sometime later on, especially if he starts losing significant time to injuries, but as of now it seems like he's planning on playing through 2027.

I want him to play as long as possible. He is the last big time athlete who is still roughly in my generation after that it is all people I consider the next generation. So Lebron it is your duty to hang around for us geriatric millennials.

I think he'll go back to Cleveland on a sweet heart deal and retire next season.

Agreed with this sentiment but KD is close-ish. He was drafted only four years later.

Chris Paul was just two years after LeBron.

Good call. Paul is close to me in age that I'll claim him too. Keep going Chris!

We know he's done after this year though. I genuinely think KD will still be playing in the 2030's.

I think he wants to be like Brady, play until his mid 40s. Now, if he gets a hand in the Vegas ownership and he can't play due to the rules of players not allowed to own NBA teams, then he will retire.

Why should he announce it yet? He had no major injury in his career until now and was until last season still on an All NBA level. Players normally retire when injuries accumulate, they play through constant pain or just can´t keep up any more.

The question is more, as long as he stays generally healthy, will he retire when he is at a point of his career where his role is reduced to a role/bench player, or if he goes more the Vince/Parrish/Kevin Willis route of pretty much playing as long as a team is giving him a roster spot. Sounds unlikely at this point, but there might come a point where it would be intriguing to go for something crazy like a 30 year NBA career.

LeBron is definitely the most boring MVP-winner I've ever seen. Its amazing he's played this long and still hasn't come up with a move yet. Or his fans tell me the "spin move" is his, but that's something even an uncoordinated novice can do... we all learn that move literally the first year we play organized basketball.

And the counter to this is the guy scored 50,473 total career points, without having any moves, pretty impressive.

What move did Giannis invent? Or KD? Or Jokic? Or SGA?

Lebron has 40K+ points, and has done it with every offensive move possible. He has some of the best poster dunks of all time. But because he hasn't "invented" a move, he is boring?

Lower the shoulder and bull rush the rim was his move. He was the Shaq of perimeter players. Hopefully this is his last year

He’s going to surpass 50,000 points.

Methinks his game goes far beyond just lowering his shoulder.

He's said before he wants a chance to play with both sons before he retires. That troll he did with the second decision that turned out to be a Hennessey ad is a sign he has no intention of retiring this season, a drama queen like LeBron would want the whole farewell tour. Bryce becomes draft eligible after this season, If not with the Lakers I'm sure LeBron can find a team that will be willing to waste two spots on Bronny and Bryce if only to sell tickets. I think he retires after the 2027 season

This feels like a comment that would have been a bad take in 2008.
