We all? Didn’t most of us here find the pick laughable save for ESBF who went full meltdown when we sleuthed out Thon’s actual age.

Donte and Brogdan were great picks, Merrill good too but we still didn't get anywhere what we should have put of those.

That sounds familiar too.. either way it's not an indictment of Horst who came on a few years later lol

Also those good players picked after dj were missed by the next 4 teams that picked too so I can't say that was an obvious miss.

Hammond picks OG over DJ Wilson in 2017. That's what's funny/sad about that draft in particular. There wasn't a more "Bucks DNA" type prospect than Anunoby, and there's no doubt in my mind that draft goes much differently if Hammond stuck around a couple more months.

Per Mike Scotto:

“Over the weekend, the Bucks gauged the trade market on Smith, league sources told HoopsHype. Should Milwaukee not find a suitable trade partner before Monday’s 5:00 p.m. ET roster cutdown deadline, Smith is expected to be waived, league sources said.”

TBF Horst got the one that got away from him in that 2017 draft when he signed 28 year old Anzejs Pasecniks to a two way deal last year.

I could see a 3 way deal with the Detroit team that Smith dropped 20 on last year. Marcus Sasser has completely fallen out of favor there under the new regime after a nice rookie season. I could see the Bucks rerouting him to NO, where he'd be reunited with Troy Weaver, who drafted him. I'll take back any small asset we can get.

Gotta fight back on Donte.

He showed some early promise but for the most part he was poop ass in his time in Milwaukee. The year we traded him he was abysmal.

Would love if one of you guys would do a separate thread examining all the draft picks of the Horst era year by year.

The year we traded him where he played like 15 games coming back from not being able to walk?

Donte was definitely not ass his 2nd or 3rd seasons here. He had warts in his game to be sure like his finishing in the paint but he was a solid rotation player.

It's annoying how healthy Donte has been after his Bucks tenure. If he could've stayed healthy, I think he may have swung something in that 19 toronto series, probably would have gone through 21 a lot easier, and I think we probably get past Boston if he was healthy all year and we kept him in 22. Always showed up in big games.

Sliding doors event would be if Hollinger never published that article for him potentially being valued at 20 mil per year or whatever it was. Think his agent got wind of that and it scared off the FO (also definitely wasn't worth it at the time), plus Brook's status was still up in the air so we ended up trading him for a cooked Ibaka and he went for the min to GS.

We traded Donte for 2- 2nd round picks. Unfortunately, one of those was traded to make the contract of a different Horst pick go away, and another was used on Tyler Smith, who's about to be cut before his 2nd season.

We burned up any momentum with Donte when that Bogdanovic trade collapsed. He was clearly hurt by it and it seemed to only be a matter of time before we traded him. I thought the return was way too light under the circumstances, though.

I started thinking about our trade deadlines with Horst, and it's not great.

https://basketball.realgm.com/nba/teams/Milwaukee-Bucks/16/trade-deadline

2019: Thon and three 2nds for Mirotic. Solid theory of the case, bad result.
2022: Ibaka and a two 2nds for Donte, Hood, and Ojeleye. We were going to lose Donte, and he was clearly not 100%, but we got pennies on the dollar for a good young SG who fits everywhere.
2023: Hill, Ibaka, Nwora and five 2nds for Crowder. Crowder was cooked out of the gate, and it only got worse as time went on.
2024: Payne and a 2nd for Pat Bev. Payne sucked, but that's probably not a worthwhile return for a 2nd.
2025: Gettings KPJ and Sims for Marjon and Wright were nice returns for almost nothing. Midds, AJ Johnson, and a 2028 pick swap for Kuzma was awful, and continues to shake my confidence in Horst.

Kuz sucks but you can't undervalue the importance of getting under the second apron. Maybe it could have been done another way, I think there was little to no market in Mids though. The fact he's with one of the worst teams and will be bought out at some point, he just had little value.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.
