Bo Porter Seeks Second Managerial Opportunity; Eyes Angels\' Vacancy

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Oct 20, 2025 2:55 pm

Bo Porter told The Athletic he wants another managerial opportunity and is very interested in the Los Angeles Angels\' current vacancy. The 53-year-old coach, who interviewed for the Angels manager job previously, has expressed his interest to general manager Perry Minasian but has not yet received an interview. Porter said the Angels have not contacted him since moving on from Ron Washington.

\"I would enjoy managing the Angels because I\'ve been there the last two years, I\'ve made an investment there,\" Porter said. \"The relationships have already been fortified.\"

Porter managed the Houston Astros in 2013 and 2014 before being fired in September 2014. A.J. Hinch replaced him weeks later and built the organization into a World Series champion in 2017.

Porter spent roughly a decade away from the field in various roles, including at MLB Network, the commissioner\'s office and in broadcast booths. His recent return to coaching as a member of Ron Washington\'s staff renewed his desire to manage.

\"Now that I\'ve been back on the field with managerial experience, you see the game through a different lens,\" Porter said. \"I\'m better prepared to manage. I needed to get back on the field.\"

The Angels initially appeared poised for a quick manager search but have expanded their candidate list and backed off early favorite Albert Pujols. Some reported candidates have not yet heard from the Angels, suggesting owner Arte Moreno is not rushing the process.

The Angels told their coaching staff, including Porter, they were free to explore other opportunities around the league after Washington\'s departure.

Seven other teams have managerial vacancies: the San Diego Padres, Atlanta Braves, Colorado Rockies, Baltimore Orioles, Minnesota Twins and Washington Nationals. The Texas Rangers already hired Skip Schumaker, and the San Francisco Giants are closing in on Tennessee coach Tony Vitello.

\"I expressed my interest to him that I would love to interview for the job,\" Porter said. \"I believe I have a lot to offer to any organization that gives me a second chance.\"
