Well reading this thread, I don't think it's possible to score him less than an S+. He's above an A. Multiple mentions of the "clipper" issue. Some even named Leonard. Not a single comments that I read named an owner. How freaking great at is job is he that on a nerd site with hardcore fans, not a single person even said an owner's name thus far?

I think mezmaron[pac man's enemy, looks like darth vader b4 the helmet attachment] silver is still gravy training his banning donald sterling for life. Only great thing he did from getting a BIG FAT H. Old Jetson episode reference

Good things that Silver has done:
  • play-in tournament: people have short memories when it comes to how dull the post-all star break season would get.
  • flatning lottery odds: together with the play-in tournament has really disincentivized tanking.
  • trying to improve the all-star game: hasn't succeeded yet but atleast he's attempting to make the game watchable.
  • shot clock reset to 14 seconds.
  • clear path / transition rule
  • shortening pre-season.

Meh things:
  • Play in tournament: I like the idea of this but the execution is bad. It takes place too early in the season and not enough is done to get fans excited about this. If anything, many fans probably don't think that winning the tournament is worth their team having to play the extra game. I honestly don't even remember who won last year.

Bad things:
  • Apron rules: I think it's going to be close to impossible for teams to keep their rosters long term. Also, look at the amount of buyouts it's resulted in due to how difficult it is for teams to get out of the upper aprons. Nobel idea but bad execution.
  • 4 point shot (experimented with in the g league). While using the g league as a kind of a lab to experiment rules is good, adding a 4 point shot is a terrible idea.

He's one of the worst G.M.s in sports history. Frachise values have risen due to inflation and despite Silver's efforts. The game is in dire straights. It hasn't been this bad since the 1970s.

Oh, quit your whining. Name one other sports executive who has simultaneously and successfully held down two jobs, one as Commissioner and the other as Lord of the Undead. That requires two completely distinct sucking skills! And, has he ever once mixed up the two jobs and accidentally killed some phenom at the podium on draft night? No, of course not. And, you know why? Because Adam Silver is a professional. That's why. :noway:

With the tv package BS, he deserves no better than a D. I was thinking of getting a subscription for watching this year, but I'm out. I'll do what he suggested and just watch the highlights I suppose. If I'm not so completely turned off that I'll just do other things with my time.

I think a lot of seeds have been planted recently that are bad for the league. If they aren't addressed the league will be in a rough place.

Local media money is way, way down. Part of that is just local media in general, but it's taking the shine off all the national TV money. What should've been 10% revenue increases for a half decade didn't even happen for a year.

The NBA wants to be a media company and not mostly a basketball company, which leaves it open to competition. The NCAA is starting to retain a lot of talent that the NBA was luring away from them. Foreign leagues are contemplating forming.

"Ring culture" has de-emphasized the regular season even though that's the league's cash cow. The NBA Cup makes the time during the regular season more interesting but at the same time further devalues the "normal" games.

The league trend of softening the reffing is leading to players getting hurt in the playoffs more often than ever, tarnishing the league's best product.

F.

League heavily favors certain teams and they don’t even do anything to hide it.

Scott Foster showing up at exactly the right time they need him to extend a series or win an important game.

The Luka trade leading to Dallas getting the first pick was about as overt as you can get.

Now you have to pay for multiple streaming services just to watch one team.

Silver only cares about making money for the owners at the expense of putting forward a worthwhile product and making it available to fans.

I don't understand this criticism. "Let's not do a $76 billion dollars streaming deal, the technology of the future, and instead keep doing what we are doing for less." Which commissioner would have done that?

Seems like he's doing he's job really well.

Here's why, the commissioners goal is to work for the owners. Silver gets the heat and the owners who are the ones that are represented in the board of governors who actually make all these decisions don't get any heat.

The TV deal, benefits the owners the most, we know they want to make money, but the annoyingess of it for fans gets put on Silver, no one talks about the owners.

Essentially he's doing the job for his bosses perfectly, but many people still don't get it and think he's the owners boss and treat the decisions he makes as such.

C. I've soured on him a bit after the league threw away any pretense of actually trying to make a less David Stern like corrupt league with the Luka trade and the ensuing draft. I despised David Stern and Silver had me fooled for a bit

There are still some good things and I actually like the play in. He's still not Goodell level crap either

I may watch that movie again on Halloween night. Silver has been great as Count Orlok for over 100 years now

the GAME is lost in favor of more publicity and international relevance

i don't know how that is to be parsed. frankly the GAME only matters to fans who care. for the eyes silver is focusing on,,,,they don't care.

as for growth, all sports are growing so i think the nba is on the same bus,,,silver or not. as for the international market, 40% of that is china. the middle east in investing in ALL sports not just the nba but i think basketball is endemically more accessible than football or baseball, so is that because of silver or was that inevitable?

it's all a matter of what you embrace as a defining metric

silver gets a D- average cuz he's killed the game. what has he done that couldn't have been done by another lawyer-he's a PRODUCT of social media

bottom line domestic viewership is down but international viewership is up.....and i live in the states

If you look at the average value of teams, its easily an A+++. NBA is a business at its core.
