This is the most anticipated season for the Knicks in the last 31 years.

Post#1 » by JXL » Tue Oct 21, 2025 5:00 pm

Alright Knicks fans, it’s finally feeling real — the 2025-26 season might be the year we’ve all been waiting for. The buzz around the Garden is different right now. We’ve seen the rebuild, the heartbreak, the hope, and now… it actually looks like we’ve arrived. Before diving into why this year feels special, let’s take a step back and see how we got here.

Flashback to 1993-94

Anyone who’s been around since the Ewing days knows exactly what that season meant. Pat Riley on the sidelines, Oakley throwing elbows, Starks hitting threes (and sometimes missing them in Game 7, we remember  ). That team had toughness and identity — everything that screams New York basketball. They came one win away from a championship against Hakeem and the Rockets. MSG was alive in a way that’s hard to describe unless you lived it.

The Lost Years: 2000–2020

Then came the two decades Knicks fans want to forget. From the Isiah Thomas mess, to overpaying washed vets, to the Phil Jackson experiment, it was just a cycle of false hope and bad management. The Carmelo years gave us a brief flash — that 2012-13 squad was legit — but it never lasted. Between bad contracts, poor draft picks, and front office dysfunction, the Knicks were more meme than menace.

The Turning Point: Leon Rose Takes Over

Things started to shift when Leon Rose took over as President of Basketball Ops in 2020. For once, the Knicks had a front office with a plan. Rose didn’t chase the next big star or try to “win the press conference.” He brought in Tom Thibodeau to re-establish accountability and defense. The focus went back to development and culture — drafting well (Quickley, Grimes), finding value free agents, and eventually pulling off the move that changed everything: signing Jalen Brunson.

The Brunson Era & the Rise Back to Relevance

Let’s be honest, Brunson’s been everything Knicks fans have been begging for — a real floor general, a leader, and a clutch performer. The chemistry between Brunson, Randle, and the Villanova crew (Hart, DiVincenzo) gave this team an identity that actually works. Add in some depth, youth, and defense, and suddenly the Knicks weren’t just fighting for respect — they were a legitimate Eastern Conference threat. The playoff runs in 2024 and 2025 proved it. MSG was rocking again, the city was locked in, and you could feel the old-school Knicks energy creeping back.

Why 2025-26 Feels Different

Now here we are — entering 2025-26 — and for the first time in forever, it doesn’t feel like false hope. Brunson is in his prime, Thibs has this group fully bought in, and the front office is actually aligned top to bottom. The roster has balance, depth, and a defensive backbone that screams playoff-ready. The vibes aren’t just about making noise anymore — this team believes it can win.

No gimmicks, no “next star” pipe dreams, no quick fixes. Just a team that built the right way — brick by brick, season by season.

For Knicks fans who’ve lived through the chaos, this season feels like the payoff. The Garden’s going to be electric, the expectations are sky-high, and for once, it feels like that’s exactly how it should be.

Knicks fans — is this finally our era?

This or last year. Maybe 2000? It's still a new feeling that we're going to be a good team for at least the next few years.

This is the first year I can recall EXPECTING the Knicks to make the ECF and being reasonably confident they can make the Finals. I can't remember how excited I was for the year they gave Melo a bunch of old vets, but I know that year was full of hype and good energy too.

IMO...the key is going to be Bridges and overall team health (especially Robinson and Towns).

Bridges needs to show that he's worth 5 draft picks. This means that he has to be A LOT more impactful on both ends of the floor than he has been as a Knick. He won't have Thibs system to use as an excuse. He needs to be that true impact 3rd option and play like a DPOY candidate. He's likely going to have the ball in his hands a lot more and will be relied on to help run the offense. Great chance for him to shine (or flub). He needs to be the 3rd head of the 3-headed monster. Brunson and Towns will do what they do as head 1 and head 2.

Their overall defense also needs to pick up. With a deeper bench hopefully it'll help their stamina on both ends and afford guys to be a bit more aggressive defensively. They will need to be a top 5-8 defensive team to have a shot at winning the Finals against a team from the West.

Exactly. Expectations are extremely high for this squad to repeat what they did last season and go further. I can guarantee they didn't give up Donte and Randle to fall backwards, or trade 5 firsts for a player who's regressed, or fire a Karen coach to get a retread who just says word salad.

If there was any other time to go win a title, this is that year.

I agree. Bridges was really aggressive in the preseason with some good results, which was really encouraging for me.

IMO, if Bridges solidifies himself as that high-end 3rd option who can anchor the 2nd unit when Brunson sits, he's gonna be an All-Star, and the Knicks make the Finals.

This season reminds of the ‘94 season when Jordan played minor league baseball. No Tatum, no Haliburton.

Every year we’re good and have a chance is only goin to increase the anticipation until we get over the championship hump.

Really concerned about how injuries are going to affect us and the overall playoff race.

Let's hope we don't end up the 2nd luckiest team again.

And it doesn't hurt that the rest of the East has fallen off!

Has it though? I think the East will be tougher than expected with some of these younger guys taking a step forward. Orlando will be tough. If healthy, Charlotte can be a sleeper. Atlanta got better. Detroit will be there. Toronto was injured all of last season but they look better. Giannis is still Giannis in Milwaukee. Philly had a disaster season last year but they have some studs. Indiana will survive without Haliburton because of their team style play. Washington won't be a walk over. Really outside of Brooklyn, there are no tank teams in the East.

Dude season is over before it started it. Imagine playing 11 players with two important pieces missing! Going this deep into the bench is insane!! Brunson only played 34 minutes on a irrelevant regular season game??!! Its mind blowing!! Whats Mike Brown doing? Not a single player with 45 minutes played? wft?

People were right, we are going nowhere without Tom!! Maybe its not to late to bring him back!!!
