Game 1: Wizards at Bucks 10/22/25 - 7:00 - FDSWI

Post#1 » by MickeyDavis » Tue Oct 21, 2025 3:05 pm

176 days since the last game. While every game counts the same it's important to get off to a good start. For the sake of this board.

Last year the team started 2-8. Panic ensued. A 7 game win streak in November eased the anxiety somewhat.

Giannis and Turner have only played 21 preseason minutes together. There will be some growing pains.

The return of Khris Middleton.

As always please keep the discussion in this thread on this game itself.

If you want to rehash the Middleton trade please do so in the trade thread. THX.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Must win.

120-104.

Got that out of my system.

When you look at closeups of people's faces in quick succession, you realize that everyone looks weird.

No idea how accurate but Wizards have a lot of backcourt guys out. Whitmore, Carrington, Coulibaly out?

But yeah, can't give the Wizards one of their 20 wins this season this early. Giannis should be rested and hopefully a 30/12/8 in 30 min.

Really curious to see the rotation

-Who among Prince, Coffey, Sims gets minutes?
-How many minutes does Kuzma get at the 3 compared to the 4?
-How does the guard rotation shake out
Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"

Just gonna enjoy watching Giannis in a Bucks uniform for as long as it lasts. Curious to see how some of these bench lineups with Anthony, Prince, Kuzma, and Bobby are gonna survive. Feel/hope that the starters can be a pretty consistent +5 or better net-rating type group over the course of a full season, but the offense collapsing without the Giannis lineup-deodorant out there is a legitimate worry.

I haven't been this hyped and optimistic going into a Bucks season since 2021'22.

IMO the way this Bucks team is now currently constructed is how you win with Giannis. Let Giannis be the dominant force that he is and then surround him with quality role players that should play extremely well off of Giannis.

There is no one outside of Giannis on the team that needs and demands their shots every night. Like Midranger said in the prediction thread, no more my-turn your-turn iso ball like we have seen, especially the past 2 seasons with Dame.

To me, this season is almost kind of like a fun experiment where you say, lets see what happens if Giannis is option #1 & option #2. But you surround Giannis with a bunch of high quality role players like a Miles Turner, like an AJ Green, like a GTJ. Should be fun to watch.

Will it work at a high level? We will see, but if I was building a team around Giannis, this is exactly how I would do it.

Although I will say, Giannis is one of the few players in league history where this could work where you have a generational superstar, but don't really have a clear cut #2 option. But he is surrounded by really solid role players.

Going back a few years and by years I mean decades....lol. But this current Bucks team kind of reminds of the the 1994 NBA Champion Houston Rockets.

That was a team led by a generational superstar in Hakeem, but didn't really have a clear cut #2 option. But they had a bunch of really solid role players like Otis Thrope, Kenny Smith, Robert Horry, Vernon Maxwell and our very own Sam Cassell. The '95 Houston team that repeated had a clear cut #2 after they traded for Clyde Drexler. But the '94 team was basically Hakeem and a bunch of really good players.

This current Bucks team lead by Giannis IMO is in the mold of that '94 Rockets team.

I scrolled through the faces really fast and saw Giannis balding (Sorry GTJ).

Agree, I'm excited too. Kuzma will be annoying, but his role is now very limited. The gunner filled starting lineup is very promising.

Hopefully they can mold Cole Anthony into a more consistently functional PG. He seemed to get a tic better each preseason game. I was torn on the addition, he's not my style, but I think his previous coach severely undercoaches the offensive game. There might be another gear there
