I doubt he stays there super long, but maybe Spurs click and all these guards are needed.

Right. This is the problem with making future promises. A player has a specific value to a team at that moment.

I imagine that the spurs promised that max deal when they negotiated the trade, but the future growth of Castle and acquisition of Harper likely made Fox worth considerably less to the Spurs. I respect them for honoring their word - maybe that’s a necessity - but Fox may slow down the growth of their young stars guards, and isn’t still worth a max to the Spurs.

When the Spurs traded for Fox and promised him that new deal, they had no idea they were going to be in position to draft Dylan Harper.

They honored their word. Now they're going to look to get out of it ASAP unless Castle and Harper both miraculously turn into 40% 3P guys on good volume.

The Spurs have the assets to get Giannis out of MIL... if he will agree to go there.

Time will tell if the Spurs are the right fit for Fox. I doubt there is an issue.

Time will tell if the Spurs are setious about acquiring a talent like Giannis. People are assuming the Spurs are going to acquire a superstar by trade but there has been no evidence of it. As of right now, it appears they're building thru the draft.

Keep in mind that we have to grow alongside Wemby's freakish growth. And he wanted roster talent upgrades, reportedly. So what were we supposed to do? Say no? Do the best you can to accommodate which also helps the team without gutting the core. We essentially got Fox for Tre Jones, Zach Collins, and some picks. Maybe someone else, I forget. But the point is, we heard Fox wasn't getting moved for at least one of Castle and/or the #2 pick. We ended up parting with an unprotected or lightly protected pick, potentially the most valuable asset in the trade. You make that deal 10/10 times given our situation.

And our situation is that we cannot go through rookie or sophomore growing pains while Wemby is ready to win now. We have both great contracts and can combine assets like young players, players on expiring contracts and pucks to further upgrade.

Having Fox is a huge luxury because he can score for himself so it's not all on Wemby or Devin Vassell (or whoever was the default #2 guy before Fox for here).

It's also less pressure on the young guys to level up and perform well right out of the starting gate. And with them in the fold, brought along at a steady but competitive pace, Fox doesn't have to play as much or himself be overloaded with being 'the guy'.

As HMFFL said, its hardly an issue. Kind of a nice one to have, really, given fatigue, tweaks to the body that need rest, one guy is a better match up versus an opponent, another guy is hot on a given night. It's a long season. And we mean to play beyond the 82 games.

The Spurs have been a dumpster fire for years. Fox barely got any time with Victor before he went down and didn't play a ton of games before he had season ending surgery. It's asinine to start talking about trading their all-star PG at this point when we haven't even seen what this team looks like at full strength. OKC just won a ring with like 20 guards in their rotation. People need to stop thinking it can't work. Castle is not a PG, Harper is more like a big combo guard ala Manu, and Fox has a very Tony Parker-esque game. I think they can all fit together. Let's let them play some damn games together before we start proclaiming they don't fit

The better question is: What team would want a maxed-out Fox for the next five years?

If Harper becomes an all-NBA caliber player, he will command a contract that would be difficult to do with Fox around, especially because they play the same position. I could see them moving Fox then for draft assets or a complementary piece.

But that is at least three years away. Until then, I think they want to win games with Wemby and Fox, and have Castle and Harper grow together.
