I made it halfway through episode 1. Does it get better? I loved ITYSL.

Did you get to the part with the chair?

Instead of watching the Badgers get destroyed, I went and saw One Battle After Another. I thought it had some stirring moments. Lots of drama. Great scenes. Overall, I enjoyed it.

Spoiler:
The ending was a little silly to me, though. Lockjaw didn't suspect or learn afterwards that the random assassin was associated with the CAC? And CAC simply let Bob and Willa get away knowing that they're associated with the resistance? It's a fun way to end it, but I kind rolled my eyes. They set a tight narrative and then just abandoned it at the end to please the audience.

Task was very good. Good cast, good performances.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

My wife watched all the available seasons via VPN. She thinks the Australia version blows the US version out of the water.

Wolf House
Picnic at Hanging Rock
Hour of the Wolf
The Devils
The Vanishing
Doctor Sleep
Heretic
Bring Her Back
The Shout
Dead Alive
Gremlins 2
A Nightmare on Elm Street 4
Village of the Damned (1960)
Child’s Play

Watched Bring Her Back this weekend. Highly recommended. It's what Weapons could have been.

I prefered Weapons by a lot over Bring Her Back but Bring Her Back is definitely worth the watch.

I mentioned this last year, but my friend group votes bracket style on a "scary" movie each Sunday in October to watch together. We're currently working through our "Redemption Bracket" of movies that either didn't appear in a prior week or didn't quite win the week.

So far in the first 3 weeks this year, we've watched:
The Purge
The Host
The Autopsy of Jane Doe.

Previous years had us watch:
Blair Witch Project
It Follows
Alien
The Witch
Halloween (original)
28 Days Later
The Omen (original)
10 Cloverfield Lane
Scream
[REC]
The Babadook

I thought Task was incredibly average. At best

Spoiler:
when she called them both into the office at the end to discuss the VP pick I felt like such a dummy because I somehow legitimately did not see that coming. I was going to ration them out but immediately went "okay, I need to watch the next episode straight away", then at the end of the second episode they almost had me immediately watching the third straight away as well.

Show is so tightly written. Even many of the shows I love, my various mental disorders will have me checking the clock now and then. This one consistently feels half a long as it is.

Also really love the subtleties of how Keri Russell inhabits this character. Been a fan of Sewell's since Dark City so it's been fun to see him find good roles well into his 50s as father time openly mocks the rest of us.

Diplomat is completely implausible, always has been. And I don't care at all. Most/all of those type of shows are. I don't care if "that would never happen". Just entertain me. The Diplomat does that. And a great cast.

Likewise with being a fan since Dark City. I frankly take how handsome he is at his age as a personal affront.

I adore Tim Robinson. But my fear when I heard about "The Chair Company" was that he was going to sell HBO a skit idea from "I Think You Should Leave" and then they would spend 10 million stretching it out in to a 6 hour show. And it sort of feels like that's what has happened. I don't hate it. I do find humor in it, especially in the way he plays his character "Ron." But two episodes/hours in, it feels like a bloated "ITYSL" sketch that hasn't gotten to the absurd part yet.

And I guess I'm a little surprised, because I found Detroiters to be so perfectly paced with jokes, not to mention charming chemistry between Sam and Tim. "Chair Company" feels like a bit of a cash grab, or an attempt to try something different without a great plan of what that would be.

I didn't realize that Chase has only done 2 movies (one Sopranos prequel) and no TV since then. At 80 it makes sense he'd do a limited series.

Task is my show of the year so far. Alien Earth belongs in a dumpster.

I liked Task. Performances and Pelphrey carried it more than the story did imo. Agree with you about Alien Earth. Episode 5 was great, the reason of the rest was a boring slog.

Paradise is still my show of 2025. Shouts to Adolescence and Andor season 2.
