Of course, there are a few things that I am focusing on as this season tips off, but 80% of my concern this season is the development of Matas Buzelis. It is almost all that matters to me.

Let's go Bulls!

If we only have Matas for the future, we're in trouble! So I need to see Giddey looking like he was post-ASG last season. Having two anchors on which to build, now that would be meaningful.

I don’t think he will breakout to the point we can’t pay him because when Coby returns there won’t be enough shots.

Someone will be traded at the deadline. My money is on Huerter.

If Coby is the player he was post-ASB, this will get complicated.

But in general, I prefer Ayo. I think he fits more lineups and team builds going forward.

Not exactly. I do expect him to have solid year though, with a breakout a possibility. But I wouldn't say I am anticipating it as a likelihood.

More the point is that Ayo and Coby both need to be evaluated this year independently and with regard to how each impacts the other's value to the Bulls. The closer Ayo is to Coby in total on court value, the less "necessary" it is to "overpay" Coby. On the other hand, if Ayo comes back and we see that he'd already fully developed and there's no next level for him post-surgery and playing with Giddey, then Coby takes on much greater priority (if he's playing well himself, which I expect) and value to the Bulls.

While the roster is settled much more into what its going to look like later, there's still a lot of question marks. Ayo is probably the biggest one for immediate evaluation.

There's a lot I'm looking forward to seeing this year that is "new."

1. Matas. Probably everyone's greatest interest.
2. Ayo. He's more of an unknown due to the surgery and seeing what he looks like in the new style of play, which historically suits him best.
3. Giddey. Was he real?
4. Noa. If he plays. I'm extremely high on him.

The rest is pretty ho hum, but all of these things are up in the air.

Ayo has looked fantastic so far. He is going to have a great season assuming he stays healthy. Lots of questions about how this roster should be shaped in the coming years, but I really hope Ayo continues to be a part of it. If the money makes sense, he is the kind of guy that should be a career Bull.

High volume 3pt shooting is premium and Coby has it. That’s not Ayo’s game. Ayo would have to become an elite defender to carry the value Coby does.

I don’t see Coby doing post ASG Coby things this season due to his injury. Once he’s back it will take him another 10 games to get fully back and in rhythm. That’s min 15 games. I think he will miss min 10 games and then take another 10 to get fully back. We are looking 25% of the season. By that time other guys will have found a new role with more volume.

I love Coby but I will surprised if he balls out and gets paid. I think he takes a safer long term deal with us.

Without Coby and Collins, I expect us to get off to a slow start to the season. Both were key to our late season run last year. Jones should have an opportunity to establish himself though, and hopefully Huerter starts the season hot.

As for the game…

I expect us to compete but not be able to score. Giddey and Buz will probably struggle as the Pistons are the list physical team in the league and they apply ball pressure and we suck against ball pressure.

Only win I see is if Huerter or Carter go bonkers from 3.

I never cared for the draft prospects. Except once, when Spurs went after Tim Duncan. That made sense and it paid off :)
As for the Bulls - I want them to play well. Maybe shots will not fall, maybe refs will do whatever they do, I don't care. Smart play, bust your balls and whatever result will be will be.
I want Matas to start season well cause it will lead to "recognition" by whatever and that usually leads to more trips to the line.
