He might be the best player in the league

That only means something if SA wins like 52+ and he gets them out 2nd rd. Even then if he loses to Shai or Jokic in the wcf they are in the driver's seat for that title. I think he's progressing like a potential top 10 player of all time should be though. Basically top 4-5 this year and then next year he'll prob compete for mvp for real.

I'm not surprised. Provided he was healthy I had Wemby winning the DPOY and being a top 5 MVP candidate this year.

The Spurs are a decent chance for the playoffs, and maybe more.

Year 3 LeBron and Jordan were both MVP runner ups, I could definitely something like that for him. Bet he'll get friendly voting too early on as the shiny new toy

It's within the realm of possibility though bpitw and mvp are not the same debate. Way bigger playoff emphasis on the former.

Jordan and LeBron also got shiny-new-toy voting.

Oh I just said that bc you mentioned mvp conversation next year. Yeah i dont think he'll be the slam dunk BITW or anything, I just think he'll be in the conversation, which is generally pretty open unless you have a prime LeBron, Jordan type (which we do not).

Yeah, so an apt comparison imo.

Guys, Victor is a lock top 3 for this year. He was already top 3 last year (better than Giannis, Tatum, and Luka for sure). What doubt is there he will be top 2-3 this year?

This doesn’t even capture what he did best in the game, i.e., defense. Mavs shot 4-17 against him. AD was 2/8 on shots Wemby contested.

Being trained by monks, coach Pop, Hakeem and KG plus being reminiscent of Kareem and KD gives way to a lot of interesting nicknames.

Don't disappoint me, b-ref.

Dwight Howard also trained with Hakeem and it did nothing for him. plenty of guys have trained with Hakeem and not gotten close to these results. the fact that he was able to absorb this much in one summer is scary

We might be overstating what Hakeem can do honestly. Hakeem might have played a role in Wemby getting better, but I'm thinking it's like 5 to 10%.

As much as it hurts for me to admit this (as a Chris Paul fan), it looks like the Spurs may have just been goofing off last year with Wemby taking 9 threes a game. Maybe this is what it looks like when the Spurs are trying to win with no reservations.
