If you said playoffs...I'd be like "hell no, they looked great". But title?

Vassell - 25
Barnes - 33
Wemby - 22
Castle - 21
Champagnie - 24
Johnson - 26
Harper - 19

Besides Barnes this is a group with so little playoff experience, it's actually a problem. Johnson at 26 has never played in the playoffs.

Of their top 7 guys in minutes in that first game...only one player has ever even played a playoff game.

No. They may struggle to avoid the play in, but I can also see them being OKC’s biggest threat out west. I’m lower on Houston than most and not as high on Denver, so can see Minny & SAS taking a leap into contender-dom if OKC is at all complacent this year.

Spurs lack good size outside of Wemby. They have good young guards, but only 2 PFs both at 6'8".

SAS needs to find some size that can play the mid game and rebound.

The only player with playoff experience is barnes and fox with only a few games. Based on what we know historically, teams with that much inexperience dont win chips.

Now can they win with this exact same team in a couple of years? I can see it.

The thread title question and the poll question are different and the opposite answer is true depending on which question you used to answer the poll.

Anyway I can’t remember ever seeing as big of an overreaction to one game in my life.

Lol. The classic reverse the poll question from the thread title.

This is a Stephen A. Smith level take. What NBA team has ever gone from no playoffs straight to a championship? Even the Thunder had a gradual climb.

no single player can win a ring...the spurs don't have the team yet to win a ring...they have one MVP caliber player and 3 good players and some guys....

This is a heavily premature poll, obviously. And no, the Spurs aren't going to win the title this year. The rest of the team around Wemby isn't there at this point.

They probably won't win the title but are guaranteed to be a playoff team (Maybe via the playin but could be Top 6 too).

Guaranteed is probably a little aggressive, though it's likely. There are a lot of good teams in the West, and the Spurs are leaning pretty heavily on some younger and flawed guys around Wemby. Worth remembering that if folks are projecting off of their first game, they have a -23 DRTG which absolutely won't be anywhere near that in 5 games, let alone 40 or 82.

Castle isn't a good scorer. He isn't going to look anything like he did in that opening game on the balance of the season. And of course, Wemby isn't going to shoot 71% from the field. And Keldon Johnson won't look anything like that off the bench. We'll see what Harper looks like over the season, etc, etc.

There are lots and lots of questions, and much expectation for regression and the like, so it's still quite early to be guaranteeing anything, even setting aside the usual health stuff.

You can't score inside with this guy. He can literally contest every shot without leaving the ground. No worry at all about second jump ability because he's huge.

Oh yeah, his reach is insane. His ability to contest while flat-footed is nuts, but it's also in the horizontal distance he can cover. I will never forget watching him block a three while starting from the foul line. Man was inside the circle and still got out there mostly on length to block the shot. Insanity.

Never change realgm. Spurs are wininig the title based off a 1 game sample driven by a 7"7 guy coming off a blood clot who hasn't proven he can even consistently play 50 games a season.

What do you think is the ideal prototype to guard him?

I would guess it's a 6'9 long forward built like Achiuwa because finding a 7 footer who can move as well as Wemby is a unicorn in their own right.

This was one of the reasons I wasn't interested in Rocco Zikarsky at the draft. He's a project but a 7'3 guy who can move well could give us an edge when we make a finals appearance. I would also put Chomche in the mix (after several years of development) but it seems like his career is over.
