Anyone remember this gem, the 1st game of the season. 83 points. 30.9% shooting.

We ended up making the playoffs.

But this is why I love RealGM. The overreaction after the 1st pre-season game.

Who would have guessed that RealGM, REALGM could...... overreact after a single pre-season game.

I mean, the entire conversation was about the coach drawing stuff up for Scottie offensively.

Last night, Scottie scored 9 times. 6 were in transition. Other than that he was 3/8 from the field. Granted he did exactly what I was hoping he would do (not hijack the offence, and play to his strengths), but his good scoring game last night was in no way because he performed well in a half court setting scoring wise.

It was in no way a "overreaction to 1 pre-season game", it was a comment based on 4 years of data that Scottie cannot create a shot for himself on a regular basis.

I usually agree with alot of what you post, I think this take that Scottie wasn’t good in the half court yesterday is an awful take. Watch that first half again, he created quite a bit in the half court.

I guess agree to disagree, I don't think he really did. He played well in the offence, but a lot of credit should go to Darko for a good chunk of Scotties assists.

Props to Scottie for playing within the system, but pretty much any NBA player could have made those passes to RJ on those basket cuts.

I guess saying he "wasn't good" is maybe a bit harsh regardless. He was fine. Not a negative like he has been at times in the past, but certainly wasn't amazing. Tough to really evaluate vs the Hawks I guess

You guys need to slow down. The issue with ingram wasnt talent, its availability. Its reasonable to be skeptical because the dude misses a ton of time

He was on the trade block for a while

Atlanta had a good taste of Raptors starting lineup from the 2nd half of last season.
i.e. smothering defense from our 2nd and 3rd stringers.

Not sure we've ever seen a raps team built like this tbh. 5 legit 30+mpg starters who can all initiate offense, score, pass, and defend a bit. And then one of them is a legit #1 scoring option on top of that. Can't rightly remember a raps team that's had that before tbh.

2019

Don't think Danny was ever a legit 30+mpg full-time starter tbh. Great 3+D guy but not a guy you who could initiate offense or pass much, and never played more than mid-20s mpg in his career.

Even Marc was questionable too at that point, though that was more just an age thing than a skillset thing.

Kawhi Lowry Siakam Ibaka Gasol are the 5 I was tinking of. And Green had an amazing regular season, as a 3 pt specialist, so arguably 6 scorers. All could score.

Gasol had the Poeltl impact on offense, he could initiate but less of a scorer. Similarity between the 2 players. Poeltl is similar level to veteran Marc Gasol :)

Biggest benefit to RJ's game is bullying SG in the post and drives instead of bigger wings and getting 3rd best defender

ehhh Gasol was significantly better than Jak. Not a knock on Jak, but Gasol was incredible. A 3+D center who could initiate offence.

Yeah I like Jak a lot but don't recall him holding Embiid scoreless in a game

Hey i'll give you Gasol (i said it was age not skillset - and he was out of the league a year later), but you're still stuck with starting Danny Green, a guy who could never handle or initiate.

Not saying that 3+D role players aren't good, just that this team is built differently - 5 legit starter caliber 30+mpg guys who can initiate, score, pass, and aren't defensive liabilities. We've never had this before iirc. And at the same time we have a legit #1 option, something we've gone long stretches without too.

I think he’s referring to what we gave up. We didn’t give up much at all. You can live with the durability question marks when you give up so little.

Magic gave up like 5 picks for Desmond Bane. We gave up expirings and a FRP for BI.
