The obsession is real.

The accusation is Bron was involved in some of the info Damon Jones used to bet. I could easily see a deal being cut to cooperate for the privilege of his name being removed from all press releases and further investigation into his involvement. As for the NBA, there’s definitely some smoke…

Jones was an unofficial, unpaid part of former Los Angeles Lakers coach Darvin Ham's staff and is no longer with the team under current Lakers coach JJ Redick. Ham invited Jones to be a part of team activities after James spent the summer of 2022 with Jones present for many of his offseason workouts.

James was unaware that Jones, his former teammate and assistant coach with the Cleveland Cavaliers, was involved in gambling activity when Jones spent time around James and the Lakers during the 2022-23 season, the source said. The federal indictment alleges that before a Lakers game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Feb. 9, 2023, Jones texted a coconspirator to "get a big bet on Milwaukee tonight" because James was going to be out.

He has a demanding, legit job with a staff 20 or so. Probably some kind of assistant that is in and out of phone. Meetings, media, sponsor stuff year round, not to mention a family. Doesn't fit the profile. I could more easily believe some kind of inside info player availability thing. And even that is crazy in terms of fetching bets against a team people already think is going to lose.

Well they have more than 3000 audio recordings so I wouldn't be surprised if he's caught up in at least one or a few. They're not just going to throw his name out there without concrete evidence.

Look i would usually agree but of course the guy with the Charlie Kirk avatar cries wolf first.

I'm assuming your referring to me? I was responding to a post that brought up Trump, not sure how that's me "crying wolf" (I don't think that phrase means what you think it does).

Cry wolf:

"to keep asking for help when you do not need it, with the result that people think you do not need help when you really need it"

Well it's the Basketball HOF not the NBA HOF and it's super weird and mysterious. Who knows how this will effect him as a HOFer

I don't doubt for one second that all the time coaches and players tell people close to them who are and who aren't going to play before it comes public. If Billups goes down for this, loses his spot in the HOF and banned from the NBA, I hope he takes every team, coach and player with him.

If Silver is dumb enough to let gambling into the sport from a massive marketing perspective and accept money from it, then let's at least come clean and expose the BS that's most likely been going on behind closed doors since the beginning of basketball.

He would have had someone else making the bets for him if he was involved. Just like he had his childhood friend picking up his PED's for him in the BioGenesis case. The guy is hypersensitive about his image to the point of paranoia, but he's not stupid.

I'm sure that will make the crime families very happy

This isn't some weak twitter feud that boils over. You don't want to make enemies of these people.

Is it possible for us to keep political talk relevant to the basketball part of this story rather than poking each other for the political affiliations we associate with ? I agree that the topic has relevant political side to it but as the thread will dissolve into politicking among each other, I politely request y'all take it up on the Current Affairs board. Thank you, and cheers.

It's game night in a matter of minutes, I'm selfishly interested in basketball, I know...

Pablo Torre follows them, for what it's worth.

If this is true, then there will be massive scrutiny towards any load management with bettors. Especially with Kawhi and other stars who Aspire to take games off.

It doesn't matter if fairplay is legit, you can read the indictment for yourself. The indictment says that "Co-Conspirator 8" passed information that Portland was tanking that game. Co-Conspirator 8 was described as "an NBA player from approximately 1997 through 2014, and an NBA coach since at least 2021." This exactly matches Billiups' stats.

The reason he's not named by name is that he's not charged in this indictment, he's charged in the other one, though the grand jury would have heard his name.

Damon Jones signed an autograph for me a couple years ago at a Lakers game. He’s innocent. Free my guy

Did you think he was someone else?

Thought he was Damon Wayans tbh
