Re: Kyshawn George
I feel like Dawkins' MO is draft as many guys, and if 4 of them hit, with one of them being a cornerstone guy, it worked out. Guys drafted by Dawkins:
2023: Bilal, Vukevic, AJ Johnson (traded for), Whitmore (traded for)
2024: Sarr, Carrington, George, Dillon Jones (traded for)
2025: Johnson
We're up to 9, with 2 first round picks in the upcoming draft.

What about Riley? He and Ky could turn out to be real late first round steals.Rafael122 wrote:I feel like Dawkins' MO is draft as many guys, and if 4 of them hit, with one of them being a cornerstone guy, it worked out. Guys drafted by Dawkins:

Forgot about him. So we've got 10 draft picks in the last 3 drafts with two more to go.
What I find interesting though is when these kids are up for extensions. These rookies are getting max-level rookie contract extensions. Like unless Bilal makes the jump, I cannot imagine just blindly giving him 5 years/$140 million.

Yep. Bilal and Cam's extensions will be tricky if one/or the other offer glimpses of making the jump.
One thing is to pay +$30mn/year to a surefire top 75 player in the league, while another is to pay that to someone that may not pan out to be that player.

He is very offective on offense when he isn't spamming 3s. Curious to see if he can break that habit.

Re: Kyshawn George
I am getting excited about this kid! 20 points on 13 possessions and he was only 1-4 from three! He is generating so many easy looks for himself, that he doesn't even need to be hot from three to score. And the best thing is... everything we saw from him in the second half last year tells me his three point shooting IS coming. Seriously... he could lead us in scoring this year. That's in ADDITION to the defense and rebounding!
We keep saying "we don't have our star yet"... but---yeah I know its only a couple pre-season games---what is this kid's ceiling??

I don't see a $100 million player on this team, barring these kids making a monumental leap. Bilal and Sarr will probably be in that 90 million to 95 million range.

Re: Kyshawn George
SGA and OKC are being tossed around in convo. I think some reminders re SGA might be useful
as we make projections about our own very young players, like Ky...
SGA was a #11 overall pick in 2018 by CHA (I had forgotten that) and traded 2x (by CHA and then by LAC).
From that history one might conclude that he wasn't obviously going to become an MVP. Although it is
probably fair to say there were indications (OKC saw them) pretty early he was going to be pretty darn good.
Drafted ahead of SGA were:
1st: Deandre Ayton
2nd: Marvin Bagley III
3rd: Luka Dončić
4th: Jaren Jackson Jr.
5th: Trae Young
6th: Mo Bamba
7th: Wendell Carter Jr.
8th: Colin Sexton
9th: Kevin Knox
10th: Mikal Bridges
SGA got his rookie extension in Aug of '21 (5 year $172M) ie after his 3rd season
He got a super max this past summer.
Interesting that in his draft, picks 3-5 turned out better than the others in the top 10.
And you've got Mikal Bridges and SGA at 10-11. Confirmation of one of PiFs core beliefs
about the (lack of) correlation between draft position and player performance, which obviously
varies considerably from year to year.
my own conclusion from that...
Some things are not immediately obvious or take longer to become clear. And some folks are
just better at figuring these things out than others which is also no big shock.
In the meantime, chatter away. That's what the board is for.

We have 12 guys out of the last 3 drafts.

On what basis are you placing Bilal alongside Sarr for a future payday, Bilal is completely unproven and we didn’t get to see him in preseason.

Ky’s defense on Cunningham, who is one of the top young playmakers in the NBA, was excellent.

What's Keegan done to get $28 million per?

This is pretty funny:
But seriously, I think both should start with either CJ or Bub coming off the bench.

Re: Kyshawn George
I've said previously that I believe that the smart, poised fashion in which Kyshawn plays the game is the direct result of being raised by a father who was an outstanding bball player in his own right.
This comes from online:
This comes from online:
Kyshawn George's dad is Deon George, a former basketball player who played at the collegiate level for Saint Francis University and was a teammate of Steve Nash on Canada's junior national team. Deon George introduced Kyshawn to basketball at a young age, and the father-son relationship has been an important source of support for the young player.

Re: Kyshawn George
Yeah he impressed me over the second half of last season, but what he showed last night and in the preseason against Detroit was a totally different level.
I remember being disappointed with the pick at the time. Never heard of him, meager stats at Miami and weak athletic testing at the combine.

I think Riley will surprise. A 6'10" F with the ability to handle the ball, and move well laterally.. Given his frame, if he were to put on 20 lbs, he'd make for an interesting SF. His selling point coming out of college was his scoring ability.

Yeah my belief is the best Wiz lineup involves both Bilal and George. Despite what the tweet suggests both forwards have very different defensive roles and therefore neither get in the way of the other for pt. Unfortunately I can’t say the same for Tre and Bub
