They managed to save a few minutes for Wemby's monster game, and I completely agreed with Windhorst on everything. Wemby is doing things that Giannis didn't fully figure out until season 7 or so, and I think Wemby will soon be the best player in the world, no ties, only him in a tier alone.
But the truth bomb that Windhorst dropped was very interesting. He said that Wemby hates organizations listing his real height, and wants to get himself listed at like 7'3. Windhorst was saying Wemby is basically more like 7'5 and by his eyes, more like 7'6 already. Wemby supposedly doesn't want people to use his height as an excuse, but it was something that rubbed me wrong. That's like me going into a basketball game with only 4'10 players, and saying out loud to everyone I am only 5'2 instead of 5'7. There's just something insecure and arrogant about it all.
The irony is that Wemby's skill level is extremely high, and when NBA players and NBA stars play against Wemby, they now get to know what it feels like for average people to play against NBA players. Good luck.
I would've thought they'd hide his real height to hold off any questions about long-term medical concerns. I read somewhere that the injury risk is already high for 7-footers, but it gets even worse when you're getting into the mid 7 feet range. I don't remember where I saw it and I could be mistaken.
The fact that he alluded to his Zen experience as a mental health journey to break free of any worries about his physical health means there must already be some whispers about it.
Anyway, I don't really mind him. The league needs new stars and a lot of the other options are pretty trash or terrible to watch. The Spurs are a good team now, so barring another injury to Webmanyama, they'll have to build the team through trades or free agency, not the draft.
