Franchise Draft History Game: Round One- lilroddyb vs Snakebites*

Post#1 » by Snakebites » Thu Oct 23, 2025 7:06 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Once the writeups are posted, I will add a poll, and the team with the most votes after 24 hours will advance. EACH MANAGER SHOULD ALSO VOTE FOR THEIR OWN TEAM IN THE POLL - IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS, YOU ARE SIMPLY GIVING AWAY A VOTE. If the votes are tied, we will decide the matchup via AI vote.

You are not required to state or explain your vote, but you are free to comment in the thread if you want to.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

B: Javale McGee 16-17 3.4 FGA

Total: 88/88 FGA

Team Breakdown:

Drafted by Pelicans: Chris Paul, Herb Jones, Dyson Daniels (3)
Drafted By Wolves: Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen
Drafted By Wizards/Bullets: Rasheed Wallace, Deni Avdija, Javale McGee (3)

Rotation:

Paul (38)/Daniels (10)
Allen (38)/Daniels (10)
Jones (28)/Avdija (20)
KG (38)/Avdija (10)
Wallace (36)/McGee (12)

Alrighty lets do this.

The team I've built is an extremely strong defensive team. Four of my five starters are All Defensive level, and my final (Ray Allen) was at least average in his prime, with a lot more athleticism than people who only remember his Celtic/Heat days might assume. Chris Paul and Dyson Daniels are both elite on-ball defenders. Jones and Avdija are both versatile wing defenders who can defend multiple positions. KG is the best defender in this series by a country mile, and will make life difficult for roddy's team with his size, versatility and seeming ability to be everywhere at once. And Sheed is a defensive stalwart as well.

We're extremely potent offensively too. I'd go so far as to call CP3/KG/Ray a perfect offensive trio. I don't use perfection lightly, but CP3 is one of the greatest P/R ball handlers and overall distributors in NBA history. The CP3 lead Clippers had the best offense in the league for two straight years (including one of the years I've selected). They had a better offensive rating without any other regular rotation players who were drafted in this game. And I've replaced his two primary scoring options (Blake Griffin and JJ Redick) with Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen. Kevin Garnett is one of the greatest roll-men in NBA history- an elite finisher with a midrange jumpshot to match. Ray Allen can do everything Redick did, but dialed up to 11, and since this is prime Ray Allen he also has very strong athleticism and shot creation ability. He's a terrific all-round shooting guard in addition to his off-ball abilities in Milwaukee. Rasheed Wallace plays a supporting role perfectly here. He spreads the floor and also offers some nice post skills and passing. Herb Jones was very good at hitting the corner three in the chosen season, and that's about all he'll be asked to do. Avdija isn't utilized much in these games but he's a terrific 6th man who averaged 17 ppg in the chosen season on amazing efficiency. In addition to his defensive ability he does a bit of everything on offense, and as such is an ideal 6th man for this team.

Matchup-wise, backcourt defense is a noteworthy weakness for Roddy's team, and of course Jokic will always put at least a bit of a defensive ceiling on a team. I don't think the combination of Jokic and a poor defensive backcourt bodes particularly well for this teams pick and roll defense, even with the improvements Jokic has made on that end. I assume he'll slide Paul George onto Ray Allen, but that still leaves Murray on my most important offensive player, Chris Paul.

It's important to note that roddy unfortunately could not afford prime AK47, so he gets a post-injury version who's definitely still a worthy starter due to his defense and fit with Jokic, but not the offensive threat that pre-2005 AK would have been. That plays to my strengths with Wallace/KG as Jokic defenders- I think KG's help defense will be key here.

Overall I think my team is more balanced and has enough to carry the day here.

C: Nikola Jokic 38 min / Goga Bitadze 10 min
Pf: Andrei Kirilenko 38 min / James Posey
Sf: Paul George 38 min / James Posey
Sg: Reggie Miller 38 min / Brent Barry 10 min
Pg: Jamal Murray 38 min / Brent Barry 10 min

23 Nikola Jokic 14.8
23 Jamal Murray 16
95 Reggie Miller 13.5
14 Paul George 17
06 James Posey 5.9
08 Andrei Kirilenko 7.6
01 Brent Barry 6
25 Goga Bitadze 4.8
85.6

Offense

Team is build around Jokic. everyone around him is an good or elite threepoint shooter outsite of Goga so the floor will be spaced with high volume threepoint shooters like Reggie/Jamal and Paul George and AK was even good in the chosen season ( 38% from three ).

He can run pick and roll/pop with Murray and when Jamal is healthy he is extremely hard to contain and plays at an allstar level.

Reggie will score in the flow of the offense but can also take over games same with Paul George and AK will score in various ways like cutting to the basket or alley oops

Defense

I admit I probably have the worst defense in the tournament hehe but should be ok all considered. AK and Paul George can guard multiple positions and cover ground. Jokic may not be the best defender but he is strong and can guard in the paint. Jamal and Reggie are not great defenders but can put more effort on the defensive end considering they don't need to carry the offense like they usually do

Jokic on KG
AK on KG
Paul George on Ray Allen
Reggie Miller on Herb
Jamal on CP3

overall

Great team you build there Snakebites, best of luck

Snake has the better defense and some of the best ever like KG but I like my chances. it's really hard to defend my team when you can't double team any player because of the best spacing in the tournament. Jokic should go off because all of his teammates are good offball players.

I think Snake has better two way balance while Paul/Allen/KG are great fit on offense, and I am always a pusher that 07 and 08 range Kirilenko is a major downgrade, although playing PF beside Jokic is obviously way friendlier situation than playing SF with Deron and Boozer. I started watching basketball more seriously around 07 the early freak athlete version of AK from the highlight tapes like a better Gerald Wallace was already kind of a mythic version of the past, compared to the current one at the time that moved more like Anunoby or something. The apparent athleticism drop off was pretty confusing cause he was like 26.

Definitely think Roddy should have prioritised prime AK here. 2013 vs 2014 PG is much of a muchness in this context. Would have made the difference for me in a tight vote.

Isn't this poll supposed to close today?
