Suggs could've played another minute and it would've made a difference. Instead he sat at the scorers table watching Jones do nothing. That's on Mosley.

And he's not playing the best players, he knows it and deep down inside you all know it. Richardson plays winning basketball.. he can make things happen in all facets of the game. But instead we have to watch this rookie/hierarchy/politics/salary crap. Booooo Guaranteed he'll be a better NBA player than Black and Jones if he isn't already. There I said it.

I get what you're saying, but at the same time you also know how these things work.

Tyus Jones signed a $7M deal this offseason. He's had two bad games, but they're certainly not going to pull the plug on him after two games.

I know. I would just like to fast forward. But we'll eventually get to the point where because they're paying Jones 7m and he has tenure they'll stick with him too long.

7 mln. is a pretty small contract these days, I don't think it would be much of a factor in whether Tyus gets minutes. Jett made over 5 mln. in each of the last two seasons as the 13th pick and Mosley never had a problem giving him DNP-CDs.

Well there are also promises probably made to him and his agent about playing time. How long he's been in the league. The fact that Jase is a rookie. There are several reasons why they are not going to give Jase minutes early and all of them aren't good enough. It's also not like we're talking about a rookie that is raw with potential or a guy that has elite athleticism. We're talking about a player that has shown he makes few mistakes and knows how to make the right plays on both ends of the court.

We gave up a 17-7 run in the 3rd and a 17-1 run in the 4th.

The 17-7 run was fueled by 5 points from Gueye, 6 from Alexander-Walker, and 4 from Okongwu. Orlando had 3 turnovers (AB, P5, WCJ) and 6 missed shots - two by Tyus.

The 17-1 run was fueled by 5 points from Trae and 5 from Newell. Magic missed 5 shots (2 by Bane), and had 3 turnovers (2 by Franz).

Conclusion? Fluke loss.

Edit: If you don't want to chalk this up as a fluke here is a more doomsday read:

1. The offense is prone to collapses through ice cold shooting and sloppy ball handling.
2. The Magic core crumble under pressure:
- Franz had 2 turnovers and 2 missed shots across both runs
- P5 had a turnover and 2 missed shots.
- AB, WCJ also committed turnovers while Bane missed 3 shots.

It's not the salary so much. It's the fact that he's a veteran who Mosley theoretically can trust who was also their main offseason signing after hearing for years and years how they needed a point guard.

He's gonna be in the rotation for at least 15-20 games no matter how he plays if I had to guess.

It was sort of a fluke loss, but the Hawks were just as sloppy as the Magic. Could've been a 20+ point loss if we were playing a competent team.

Oh well. Can't go up by double-digits and then start clanking threes every time you go down the court. We got complacent. And that off-balance deep three by Paolo with like 10 seconds left was just...weird. On to the next game...

I can't call it a total fluke because they did take more shots than us (even when accounting for free throws). That is usually one of the best ways to win a basketball game.

There was a lot of weird bad stuff that happened like AB falling down for a turnover and Bane with two self passes. A couple awful moving screen calls and bad offensive foul on AB on a Trae flop. Like even removing one of those ridiculous turnovers easily could have changed the game. Then there was leaving Tyus in too long and Paolo just being flat out awful.

But even if you throw that stuff out the window they made it to the end with a good chance to win and had Tyus brick a couple wide open 3s, Bane and Paolo miss extremely wide open corner 3s and Wendell drop a pass for an easy dunk. So yeah definitely some bad luck/fluky stuff. Stuff like that happens to both teams every game, but seemed like an exceptional amount last night. It happens, nobody wins every game.

Suggs, Franz, and TDS likely sat out some of the preseason. Suggs was rehabbing. Franz and TDS played over the summer and probably got some rest. The rest of the players look like they've been ran too hard.

Tyus out of the rotation would take Jase consistently outplaying him. Unfortunately it does not seem he will get enough opportunities to do that. Yes, Jase might play tonight because Suggs wont, but regardless of how he plays tonight, he probably won't play the next one. That inconsistency usually does not bode well for a young player getting his rhythm.

My hope was that Jase, Suggs and Trae would all be part of the rotation at least until Suggs is ready for more minutes. This allows Jase to have consistent minutes, see what he is capable of and within the game, based on play you can decide who to play more in the 2nd half. Once Suggs is ready for more mins, you have seen enough from Jase and make the choice if he is ready or Tyus is outplaying him and stick with the vet.
