So Kawhi, aka the Claw, measured 9.75, with Gonzalez's hands being 10.25.

Are his hands bigger than Kawhi's... That's absolutely crazy if true.
Anyways, I think the guy should be in the rotation this year. We need a 9-10 man rotation, we aren't winning a title most likely, so why not just give Hugo a chance. Kid looks motivated and it seems as if he's already worked on his 3 pt shot. His defense is silly good already, imo.
Good assessment:

I was wrong: in the PHI game thread I pooh-poohed enthusiasm for seeing Hugo get minutes, saying the 19yo rookie needed to wait his turn.
In the NYK game he showed his turn starts now and hopefully lasts through at least 2040.
Holy **** does that guy look like he's going to be a factor in this league! Another great draft pick for Brad ;)

That starting SG spot should be a lock for Hugo in the near future.

JT, JB, and Hugo at the 2, 3, and 4 spot will be a nightmare for opposing teams on the perimeter.

Yup. He should be starting between White and Brown any day now.

It's just 1 game. That said, I really liked what he did out there. It's a good start for him.

I said a few days ago that I hope we can look back in 5 years and say Hugo should have gone top 5 in the draft. Still too early, but it was a good 1st game for him. The defense intensity was great.

you are what you guard, but I wonder if he's a long-term 2 or 3. I lean 3 due to height, but at least in his younger years if he's going to keep up that intensity then his lateral quickness says he can be a jumbo 2. Then you keep Pritchard or Simons as backup combo guard and either let Simons expire or deal Pritchard, who will have some value, perhaps as part of a package for a 4 and/or 5.

With that frame and body, he's got grown man strength at just 19. I saw some comparisons the other day. How about Ron Artest without the crazy? Who knows? Anyway, I am glad we have him. Seems like Brad's first hit in the draft. Him and Kalk would have been ideal.

Throughout the years, I have been the biggest supporter of giving our young players more of an opportunity. Robert Williams, PP, Nesmith, Hauser Queta etc.. The opposing stance was "young players are not ready for a title run" etc..

But there can not be any reason whatsoever that in this situation, with our current roster and our current but small sample size that Hugo should get anything less than 20 min per. Even if Offense and occasional shooting sputters, his energy and enthusiasm is constant and perhaps contagious. One year of constant playing time may make Hugo a great 5th 6th 7th man in rotation for a Tatum led Title run.

And as I think Shak has stated, let him play through some mistakes.

Confidence = growth and Growth = Confidence.

As if he weren't already the dreamiest athlete in Boston. Drake Maye is taken, but Hugo's available.

Winning a title or not, Hugo deserves to play significant minutes.

Joe needs to stop this BS of giving Sam and PP seniority.

My comp is going to be a 6'8" Avery Bradley, which is an awesome player.
(Avery became a really good shooter, so he'll need to do that, but he clearly has offensive upside.)
He has enough potential to change my predictions of what our next championship-contending core is.

So a silver lining with the JT injury. I would imagine there would have been a higher chance that we would have also been one of the teams to ask him to stay overseas for another year if JT was healthy?

I can see the Avery comp. Absolutely hounded dudes and almost always seemed to stay between his guy and the basket. That works.

Right -- and is a 6'8" Bradley sort of like Artest? Not sure. I don't really like thinking or talking about Metta World Peace much. He always struck me as more like a linebacker playing basketball though. Hugo seems more fast-twitch like AB. Bradley peaked kind of early, and Hugo might too, but I'm keen to see it play out!

I suppose I was focusing on strength more. Artest was a good defender in his day. I do like your Avery comp better though for style of play. Hugo is a very sturdy and strong kid for 19. Imagine him mid 20s.

Oh certainly Artest is one of the best perimeter defenders I've ever seen. Pippen, Bradley, Rick Fox (strong Celtics bias:) -- Artest more of a bruiser is all I was trying to say.

Hugo is promising enough that I'm already returning to my 'trade Jaylen for a big' plans for the next title. JJJ or Giannis or maybe Bam but no way in hell Riley trades with us.

Brad says the plan is and has always been to surround the Jays with talent, and I've been all about that too, but Hugo's potential might unlock a different path while JT hopefully gets back to full strength over the next season or two.
