Game was closer than i thought. I figured it would be a dodger romp. We were looking great until the 5th and 6th innings. We had Yamamoto on track to be ousted by the 7th. But i think the total pitches for 5th and 6th were something like 12.

I really liked our chances until that quick 5th inning. That changed the entire game. I think he was close to 60 pitches after 4? We had him on the ropes.

But a split was always a good outcome. Just need to win one in LA. Getting to a game 6 in Toronto was always a good scenario for us. This was an extremely close game that was won on the margins. I was expecting to get blown out so it all bodes well imo.

As everyone knows.....pitch count is everything going forward. And we got 3 chances at getting into their bullpen.

Not scared of Glasnow one bit. Just need Mad Max to show up.

I think we can easily steal one in LA.

To echo others, not scoring in the 1st was huge. Could have ran up the pitch count and possibly score some. But such is life. He is a great pitcher.

Now gotta win 2/3 in LA

I think the approach was fine tonight, getting some BABIP luck was probably our best shot. Yamamoto's stuff was just nasty and he commanded everything, he rarely got behind and not even sure if he got to 3 balls the entire game. If they took pitches instead, Yamamoto would have had a 12 K game. Maybe you get him out of there in the 7th/8th, but being on the defensive and trying to squeak out a close game win probably isn't the recipe for this team. It's not like we have a shutdown bullpen either.

Gotta win 2 in LA with Yam pitching game 6 in Tor.

I don't know about that...he was behind in almost every count until the 5th inning. Or maybe the 4th? I can't remember.

Plus....the bullpen vs bullpen matchup is the ONLY matchup that they don't completely dominate us on paper. So that's the exact thing we need.

Apparently Scherzer and bieber will be pitching next game. How have they been all season long?

Hopefully George is okay.

He was feeling his hand for the rest of the game.

I really don't think it was that type of game. We threatened in all three of the first innings. This wasn't some sort of "we can't score on that pitcher" type of performance aka Andrew Miller in 2016. Or something equivalent to a Skubal game.

We had him on the ropes. The two quick innings mid-game were the difference.

Sometimes you just gotta tip your cap to the opposition and tonight was the case with Yamamoto. He wasn't ultra dominant Randy Johnson style but he was almost flawless in his game plan and executed it perfectly. Blue Jays had him in the first and they let him off the hook. Having Bo in that spot would have been huge.

Yeah other than IKF I thought the approaches were good we put the ball in play a good amount in the first 7 before Yamo somehow took it up to another level for the 8th and 9th. Yamo just had command of everything tonight be threw 105 pitches with 70% of them being strikes lol just insane gotta tip your cap and go on to LA.

The Jays got beat by an ace who dominated. Not much else to say here.

Ok. Yamamoto is legit great. Can't get shut down by any of their other starters like that again if we want to win though.

It might not get any easier too. Glasnow and Ohtani aint no slouch and are capable of having comparable performances. Just need to get their pitch counts up and get to their bullpen.

Return to Toronto Blue Jays
