Kyshawn George – The Best Prospect of the 2024 Draft Class?
Hot take? Definitely. Overreaction? Possibly.
But Kyshawn George is awesome. Fantastic defender for his position on and off the ball. Active, aware, smart, physical. A wing who can dribble, pass and shoot (just needs incremental improvements over the next couple years to be more consistent), and knows how to move off the ball. The kind of player every team would love to have and can't have enough of.
Since the 2024 draft class lacks any true superstar prospect, I can see a bunch of different players developing into the best player from their class. Kyshawn is one of them. So if you are unfamiliar with him because he's on the Wizards and didn't pop statistically during his Rookie season, consider this a PSA. He's fun to watch for those who love good basketball and should have a good career.

I don’t think it’s that much of a hot take.
I’m biased because I’ve been on Kyshawn from day 1 but who’s he even competing with in that draft class? It’s pretty terrible top to bottom.
He’s clearly better than Sarr and Risacher. Sheppard is awful, Castle is mid with a low ceiling.
I like Ron Holland but he doesn’t have the on ball or playmaking juice that Kyshawn does.
It’s really only between him and Matas at this point

Re: Kyshawn George – The Best Prospect of the 2024 Draft Class?
2024 draft might be the worst top 10 of all time in terms of talent.
2000 is a hard class to beat but I doubt there’s even 1 all star in this group, maybe 1 or 2 guys look like fringe all stars if you squint really hard?
I’m guessing 3, maybe 4 of these guys don’t even make it to 5 years in the league.
And don’t even bother trying to tell me that it’s too early, talent is talent and you either have it or you don’t. We don’t have to wishcast guys who are just so obviously not starting NBA caliber players

Every draft class always has two dozen all-NBA players until they actually get on the court.
I like Ky, seems like a budget J-Dub.

the wizards played the pistons in the preseason and he looked really impressive, i literally thought to myself "who is this guy?".
he could definitely take a serious leap in year two.

Can't say it is terrible after one season. Certainly we aren't going to say it is great, but it's going to be one of those classes where we have to wait to see.
Kenyon Martin for example didn't become an All-Star until his 4th season at 26 years old.
These guys are 1 season and two games into their careers and we're talking about "at least another draft class had an All-Star", I mean, lol

I want him to be good for the wizards sake. The draft is very blah overall. I am not even high on Castle to tell you the truth.

People wait, hope, and wishcast these lottery picks for years until they’re out of the league.
Which of the top 10 picks do you really think are future all stars? Wait and see is such a cop out. I’m happy to break down individual players.
I’m making a call and if I’m wrong I’m wrong but fence sitting until something happens is boring.
Here are my “predictions”
Fringe* all stars maybe:
Castle
Sarr
Impact players:
Clingan
Holland
Future role players:
Risacher
Bench riders:
Sheppard
Edey
End of bench / out of the league:
Dillingham
Salaun
Williams
I’m fine being wrong but I bet I’m right on at least 80% of these

Gotta admit I had my eye out on him when we played the WIZ last season.
However, I will reserve judgement until the 3rd season of this batch

Walter was picked by Masai, an elite scout, over George, even though George is Canadian and has ties to the organization through the olympic team. I don't think George is going to be a great defender and a consistent offensive player. A 2 way player is a better grab and better fitting for a contender.

Nah
But a very good pick in the 20's. Great defender as well.

Oh I'm not saying the draft class is good, I'm saying I'll give them more than one season before deciding whether they can beat 2000's top 10 with Kenyon Martin a 1 time All-Star as the only one to make an All-Star team and Jamal Crawford as the second best player in the top 10.

Even just a year in, I have way more hopes for 2024 than 2000. George, Ware, Castle, Risacher, and Sarr can all carve out a role in the NBA. The 2000 draft, have a couple of all-stars, but the overall talent was so bad. Just look at the top 5.

How is Masai not an elite scout? That's been obvious for years. George isn't a given to be anything he was a low pick in a bad draft.

Oh you're right, it's obvious, that's why Toronto is stocked with home grown talent identified by Masai and not a bunch of dudes he overpaid for in trades.

They hit pretty well on their recent and past draft picks. There were seldom misses. I have no idea what you're trying to point out. OG, Fred, Siakam, Powell, Poeltl, and many others are picks by Masai.

Dillingham
Salaun
Williams
I’m fine being wrong but I bet I’m right on at least 80% of these
Oh I'm not saying the draft class is good, I'm saying I'll give them more than one season before deciding whether they can beat 2000's top 10 with Kenyon Martin a 1 time All-Star as the only one to make an All-Star team and Jamal Crawford as the second best player in the top 10.
Micheal Redd says hello…
Actually impressive that he was known as a shooter in the NBA while in college was he wasn’t remotely a shooter.
