Simon's has looked like a lesser Gary Trent Jr and, after 3 games, I value him as a veteran's minimum type of free agent next summer.
That's because Joe is not using Simons properly.
You can see Simons still scores in double figures even with limited playing time and shot attempts.
He's a scorer.
If Joe doesn't let him loose he will be ineffective because he's not good on defense and he's not very big.
So as long as Simons is stuck behind PP on the depth chart, Simons will be ineffective.
It's not a good fit because of how Joe runs the team.
Time to move Simons for a player with a lower salary.
He's way overpaid. Dlo makes $6 mil. Gary Trent makes $3.5 million, Jordan Clarkson makes $3.5
Simons is a $3.5 milloin player, making $27M ... I don't think we're trading him for anything on that contract, though I hope I am wrong about that
Eh..Trent is apples to oranges with Simons. Trent can't even dribble or create his own shot....under 9 for an assist % every year of his career. Simons meanwhile has been over 20% assist in 3 different seasons.
Clarkson also is a much worse playmaker than Simons. And he's 33 yrs old..7 years older than Simons. Like where are these comps even coming from?
Russell is somewhat similar but he's 3 years older and more injury prone. When Russell was 26, he was making like $28.6 mil a year.
Herro - making like $30mil a year
Poole - making like $32mil a year.
CJ McCollum was making like $26 mil a year when he was 26. And that was awhile ago - guys are getting paid more now.
Zach Lavine is making $47 mil this season. $46 mil a year for Jamal Murray.
Saying Simons is a $3.5mil player is laughable, with all due respect.
Oh and plus minus on a 3 game sample is pretty much meaningless. We're a bad team and he's adjusting to a new team, new system, new role, etc.
Advanced stats like plus minus are biased against guards..especially volume scoring guards..just like they are biased in favor of bigs - especially bigs who take mosr of their shots right near the rim..so gotta take those biases into context and don't just take those numbers at face value.
