He is the worst coach in the league, period imo. Has no redeeming qualities of an nba head coach nit sure why we continue this charade

He is not an NBA head coach period, he would have OKC playing.500 ball, too nice, too buddy buddy with players, no feel for lineups, bad adjustments, doesn't have his team ready to compete every night, no more development excuses for this guy, if this gets out of hand early Bobby wll fire him to save his own ass

Agreed and also the development coach argument is a non starter. The raptors are a luxury tax team they need to move now

Not exactly a vote of confidence for our team defense.

Well, you're probably not switching up your coverages to emphasize stopping bench players. But yes, the Team D right now isn't sharp. It doesn't look connected. Similar to last year, we were awful to start but we got better as the year went on. We will have to see how it looks with more reps.

Their defense got better when the schedule softened last yr

15/5/7, and only 2 to's, while shooting 11% on 3's right now. If was even shooting his 3's at an average % (for him - so like 37%) he would be at roughly 20/5/7 on 61TS%. The fact of the matter is there is a lot to like offensively from him right now, and that is despite his best offensive skill being non-existent he has been quite good everywhere else.

It really seems to me like people are not doing much analysis other than "low ppg, bad 3pt%, must be bad" and not actually watching lol. His game inside-the-arc to start the year has been terrific.

Now give me some analysis on his defense vs Dlo and Cole Anthony

This team is fine on offense, even with IQ bricking it up. We need STOPS, and our main pg is getting lit up by bench players

Sure, according to NBA.com IQ matched up with Cole Anthony for 2:58, and scored 2 points on 1/2 shooting, and had 2 assist and 1 turnover. From watching all of Anthonys makes it looks like they were on:

Shead (IQ not even on floor)
Sandro (IQ not even on floor)
Shead and Mogbo (IQ not even on floor)
IQ and Sandro (Pnr - real good one by Turner tbh)
Oreb (IQ not even on floor)
Ingram (IQ guarding Rollins)
IQ (but like... a real good reverse finish over the help, sometimes gotta give a guy credit lol)
IQ + Jak (switch)
Ingram + Yak

So like at most we are talking 6 points, and TBH they included some real good plays by Cole.

Unfortunately, no stats for tonight yet, but from the video,

RJ (IQ not even on floor)
IQ (real tough floater - IQ really couldnt have played it better)
Agbaji (IQ not even on floor)
IQ + Agbaji (looks to me like Ochai messed up coverage here as there is no way IQ should have had to fight 2 screens here)
Shead (IQ not even on floor)
IQ (piss poor screen nav)
IQ (good shot by Dlo - zero help from Jak)
RJ? (open C+S)

so like.. at most 8 points but hard to pin those all on IQ

Soooo of Dlo and Anthony IQ was not even on the floor for about half the makes, and was only guarding him for half of the ones he was on the floor.

Lol you got it bro

IQ doesn’t need to be better defensively, especially in the 4th. If he gives up a straight line drive to dlo or Cole
Anthony or plays weak pnr defense, **** happens. Get em next time!

IQ is the latest to fall victim to Toronto's jumpshot-forgetting disease. There must be something in the water here.

RJ has been solid! Arguably our best player through 3 games.

Who is actually a realistic target for an upgrade (even if Quickley was hitting 3s and had better trade value)

We need a pg like Jalen Suggs, someone who is an excellent defender, can shoot the 3 and is a capable passer.

He's a significant downgrade as a passer and a shooter. He has one season as a good shooter, the subsequent season it came back down (and so did his TS%), and is 33% for his career. He averaged a career high 3.7 assists to 2.9 turnovers last year.

Yes he's a great defender, I cant imagine him being a good fit with our roster. These hypothetical upgrades over Quickley are a lot tougher to find than you think

and coming off the bench mamu and dick can give you some more offense, but again their defense are even worse than our starters...almost our entire rotation cant defend jack lol

i know cmb had a rough rookie awakening of a first game but we badly need his defensive potential, i believe he will pick it up

I refuse to believe Jakob somehow got cooked over 1 off-season. Can someone smarter than me break down our schemes this year vs last year? What has changed?

dballislife wrote:my gawd poeltl with 6, 5, and another 5 fouls first 3 games playing 22 min of action...hes either been fouling, getting blown by, or scored on...honestly if he just played like last season we might have won these games

The defense cracks too easy and there ends up being a play at the rim. Poeltl isn't a great rim protector and hasn't ever been? I considered Ware and Maluach at the last few drafts because a 7 foot monster with an insane reach is going to make players who are driving think twice. We will see this versus the Spurs tomorrow against our guys.

I think when a driver see's Poeltl, they are kind of happy it's not someone else with athleticism and reach. That doesn't seem like it'll work with a pressure defense like we have. If we had Lively on our team waiting for Russell to make a drive, Russell would think twice and that heisitation is enough for most NBA level defenders to recover.

The next step for evolving this team is to find that rim protector. I'd keep an eye on Portland, maybe they give up Clingan soon with Hansen on the rise.If we could pull off Dick + 2027 1st for Clingan we'd be on a good trajectory.

Poeltl / Clingan
Barnes / CMB
Ingram / Battle
RJ / Walter / Agbaji
IQ / RJ / Walter

Shooting and size are going to turn us into a top 6 seed.

we actually dont even have to worry about moving quickley...no team would trade for him at 33m for many years...not one

RJ was good tonight...minus being in foul trouble

He played his part, the problem is only him and Scottie showed up tonight.

He’s working back into shape, but also realize that last year was an outlier not the norm.

We should start Mamu. It'll force Wemby to the perimeter and help us get by with paint points. We are a bad shooting team and not getting those baskets could be really bad for us.

We need our shooters to show up. IQ, Dick, Agbaji, RJ, Ingram, and especially Mamu need to hit their shots.

If Barnes can figure out how to use his mid range game against Wemby and pull him out of the paint and deliver timely kick outs we might win.

Yak will get back to his normal level with time... positives? 3 players (Ingram, Barnes, RJ) Who are scoring at over 20 pts per game with good percentages.. so we can score... we need more from our bench and Yak back at his best...
