give us Jaden McDaniels and he's all yours

Price is now McDaniels and a first! Kidding, but ironically the Wolves could really use Austin.

AR's problem last year was his consistency.... he had a similar game against the Celtics last year & then promptly went ice cold from the field . so let's see if this year is different. He's had 25+ scoring nights so far the first 3 games... but those have been without Lebron & then tonight, Luka...

If this guy was on a team like the Celtics or Clippers where the Nate Duncans of the world suck off their Front Offices we would never hear the end of how great AR is

Austin Reaves is proof many many players in the league can put up star numbers on any given night if given the green light. 22fg attempt and high on ball usage. The reason hes not consistent is bc he shares the ball with lebron and luka. Theres a pecking order in the league.

I said the moment LeBron was out with his injury that this opens the door for Reaves to make a all-star push.

If he can start off hot and remain his stats from last year when LeBron returns he should be on pace to make it.

This is also bad news for the Lakers, because he's just playing himself into a max contract. Are they really going to pay him to the max. Luka/Reaves would be the long-term commitment moving forward.

If they don't believe in Reaves long-term then it's best they just trade him and get something in return.

LeBron doesn't make teammates better. Never has either.

That's your conclusion?

If many many players can put up 50 pt triple doubles they're welcome to do so, considering over 95% of the league does not share the ball with LeBron or Luka. Austin Reaves is proof that he's a really good player.

I think Reaves is a good player. He would've been a great fit on the Magic before they traded for Bane. As it stands, he could score a dozen games of 50; I'd still say that he's a bad fit next to Doncic.

People are are conflating Reaves being traded with him being a bad player, but the reality is that many informed fans can acknowledge the quality of Reaves while also calling for a trade because of chemistry.

Chemistry matters, especially the synergy between your top three guys.

I never said he wasnt a good player. Im saying there are many players in the league that can put up monster numbers on any given night if given the green light and not relegated to a specific role by the team. It doesnt mean they could do it on a consistent basis nor would it be ideal for the franchise to give such green light to said player.

E.g jahlil okafor put up 31pts on 52% 17reb 5assists 4 blocks 2 steals in a single game his rookie season. Ppl think he was some journeyman scrub but the reality is he was blackballed by the league bc of his attitude as well as the off the court incident w/ the fan.

Reaves averaged 20ppg and 6apg on 61%TS for a whole season. Hes cleary a consistent player.

He's fine next to Luka if you have an all-world defensive player at the guard spot. Counterintuitive but Luka is not a guard on defense. Lakers experimenting with this by starting Smart and Gabe. Neither of those guys are the level necessary to make it work obviously, but I think it's the right blueprint. Luka and Austin's defensive deficiences are vastly overrated.

On offense, I agree that Austin's off-ball game has a ways to go. Playoffs last two seasons his shot's been gone, maybe due to effort exerted guarding Murray and Ant. Since it's a combined 10 games it may also just be flukey since he was good in the 2023 playoffs

I have to imagine if the Walter group owned the team at the time, there's no chance they would've let Alex Caruso walk for nothing. Buss felt like they had to choose between Klutch client THT and Caruso. But a mega billionaire like Walter never would've seen it as an either/or proposition. He even came back to the Lakers and gave them a chance to match the offer he got. That back court with AR and Caruso would've been perfect next to Luka.

This front office has been really stupid with asset management. Let Randle walk for nothing, gave Zubac away for free.

Scouting department keeps finding these gems and the cheap front office keeps letting them go for nothing.

If Austin keeps his play up, i'd definitely try to flip him for assets that fit better around Luka. My dream trade is Austin + spare parts for Tari Eason + DFS. HOU gets a ballhandler who can score and help facilitate while FVV is out for the season, basically keeping it afloat with one of KD's last post prime seasons, while still having enough athletic defenders to help cover for AR15's poor D. Tari and DFS are both elite defenders who can shoot (Tari is developing), that'll greatly help cover up for Luka's defensive deficiencies. Now losing a future secondary ball handler sucks, but the boost in defense is worth it, and it'll make this season's team with Lebron very interesting.

He's not earning a big salary this year, only like $14 million.

So his salary doesn't have much ballast.

Maybe a sign and trade deal in the offseason would be easier if the Lakers want to land a big fish like Giannis or Jokic. Then his salary outgoing could be more like $40-45 million.
