Not a hot take to think Powell is just as good or better than Herro. I mentioned it last year and was attacked with pitch forks but it’s the truth. Now you have to factor in their age difference and their contracts. Powell could flame out in 2 years or he could still be pretty damn good while Herro should continue to be a solid player for another 8-10 years. The contract difference is huge and I think both are pretty replaceable, I mean Powell is kind of showing that with Herro now.

I worry the ball will stick a lot more when Herro comes back while he hunts for his own shot, he hasn’t even had a practice with the new look offense yet. Hopefully I’m wrong.

It appears Spo been trying to build an offensive scheme based around a shooting guard at the one for years now. Spo been developing Herro and was developing Nunn to play the one. Right now he has Jamie running point, which has been in development since his rookie season. Jamie running point has been working so far.

Seems every year a rookie has a reported minor injury that holds him out for a long time. Free Jakučionis!

lol, because you said the same about Rozier. Of course it's a hot take when this is game 3 of an offense that non of them played in before. Herro was producing in a near bottom league pace with nothing but dead weight on the perimeter til Davion came along. Yet some people were predicting LESS wins with Powell added. Let's wait and see what the actual production looks like when the pieces come together, because I'm taking the over on Herro 25ppg attempting 11 3s a game

The drama last year CLEARLY affected most of the team, they're young guys.

Heat literally might become the best team in the league on offense once Herro comes back and Bam remembers how to shoot the ball and dribble.
For a long time it gave me nightmares, witnessing an injustice like that. It’s a constant reminder of just how unfair this world can be.I can still hear them taunting him, Silly Rabbit tricks are for kids.I mean why couldn’t they just give him some cereal?

Yeah we didn’t know the FBI was on Terrys doorstep, you said Bam isn’t as good as Ayton, none of us are right 100% of the time. Verticals take it being a better fit in Spos offense is premature obviously as we’re 3 games in to Powells Heat career. It’s not insane to suggest Powell is just as good of a player though. He showed it last year and he’s showing it now. Herro was a pretty average offensive player until last season but again, that’s part of development. Powell has had elite efficiency for years. That’s ok though, it bodes well for our team if they can play off of each other and not miss a beat.

I’d take the under on 25 unless he just comes in and hijacks the offense which could be a possibility. We swapped Jimmy out with 2 guys in Powell and Wiggins who want to shoot quite a bit more than an unengaged Jimmy. It’s no guarantee he won’t miss out on a shot or 2 compared to last season so his efficiency would need to skyrocket again

Agreed, only issue is he's existing his prime as we speak. we really want to keep him long term for his decline?

I rather powell at 4 year 100 than herro at 4 year 206 million

And no i dont think they can co exist on the floor together. Herro is not even an average off the ball player. He needs the ball on his hand and he needs a lot of volume to get going.

Also powell has a bigger bag offensively and more efficient

Not an average off ball player? After half a decade of the Jimmy era you're saying that?

Hold on, hold on. Herro was producing efficiently in the nonsense they scooped together when they lost Jimmy midseason.

Also just think about where they are in their careers. Herro is 25 doing what he did as the number 1 target on opposing scouting reports, while Powell is 32 and didn't start playing this well till he was 30. Thats a BIG difference. Powell could start falling off next season and that would be normal, while Herro is just beginning his prime. Investing in Powell over Herro long term probably isn't the smartest thing, especially after the great season Herro just had.

He had his one good season where he had the volume turned all the way up. The rest of his career, for the bar the delusional fans have placed on him as a franchise player, he has been average at best. And yes, he is a very average off the ball player, there were many instances we were better when he was sitting down or not available. Hell we made a Finals run without him, i dont think we make it to the finals with the way he shoots us out of games, and not to mention his revolving door defense

Money matters just as much as age.

Powell at 4/100 vs herro at 4/180 is a pretty big difference for similar archetypes.

Yeah if you had another star available for Powell
to play off of. In our situation you'd be leaning into a late bloomer at the end of his prime, that historically tends to break down when you do that for too long. I mean why else do we think we got Powell for so cheap? The Clippers didnt give him out of the goodness in their heart.

Atleast with Herro, its far more likely he keeps up his good play for next 4 years. There's even still potential for him to improve even more. With Powell, this is his peak. He's not getting any better. Infact, he's likely going to start getting worse.

I do hope they look into Mitchell, Powell, Herro, Bam, Ware lineups. Wiggins just isnt popping like. Though I do wonder how that would effect Jaime and Jovic off the bench. I want them to keep the ball in their hands.

Oh no no no, the Clipps just wanted to help the Heat for mafia reasons lol

Reality, Herro vs Powell is not an option for any franchise unless something better was brewing. Simple, one young and one not so young.

Jamie Jaquez Jr is averaging 4.3 fastbreak points a games.

For context purposes, that would of put him in the top 8 in the NBA in fastbreak points last season.
On the Heat last season, Herro average 3.8 and the next highest was Jovic at 1.8 fastbreak points a game.

Jaime has impressed me so far. It seems he has found his way back.

Return to Miami Heat
