Perhaps you are right, but it is more likely that Paolo is just not great offensively and he's been labeled the franchise player. Offense didn't look bad when he was injured last season (while Franz was still playing).

A few thoughts, first I don’t believe this is Coach Mosely’s offense. You don’t bring in Prunty unless you’re having him build a system around Paolo and Franz or at least trying to build a system for both of them.

Second ( and not bashing Suggs ) why is this organization SO freaking stubborn when it comes to actually adding a point guard that isn’t on his last legs or a backup??!

I love Suggs and want Suggs to be free to be himself. We can’t have our starting point guard picking up 2 fouls in the first quarter limiting him the rest of the game. Just can’t happen. Let Suggs be the defensive menace he is.

More importantly Franz took his game and level of impact to a whole new level and it unlocked other players on the roster to do the same.

NBA offense is not that crazy complicated. Coach basicly has to identify his personal and plays which maximize their skills.
Paolo is actually a very gifted player offensively, he is actually hard to guard due to his size and skills. Franz is awsome on and off ball, you can plug him in any lineup. Bane seems very versitile as well. No excuses for Mosley, he has to get it working somehow.
As for all Paolo vs Franz crap Im not even sure if Franz wants to be an alpha, he seems like a good soldier who doesn't like to be a center of attention.
Paolo will get it going as he always does, I just wish he realized that him scoring is not the only way, getting doubled may open it for others and bring better team results.

I believe that Mosley might be making them way to tired, with this whole maximum effort on defense thing. It seems like we are really hot and really cold, on any given night. But I think his offense is also very very basic, and easy to lock up. Like some other users suggested above, there is a lot they can do to get these guys easier looks, but the offense itself is very stagnant. A lot of ISO, high pick and rolls, very little post play and very little movement off the ball.

For everyone that argues that Mosley is doing a great job and players come here and just struggle, is just not being realistic. We literally have a player that was part of an entirely different offensive system in Desmond bane that plays the opposite of what Mosley is doing out there. Memphis was top 6 offense in the league last year. Their entire offense is centered around drive and kicks (they ranked first in drive frequency) and off ball movement to create shots. They place heavy emphasis on movement of all five players, not just on the ball-handler and screener.

Entry & trigger: Many actions begin with a “trigger” — such as a ball-screen, a drag screen, or an “Iverson” cut (a backdoor or baseline cut) that initiates movement. Then comes drive or pass. One breakdown states: Decision → Pass → Pass → Drive → Trigger.

Relocation and rotation: After the drive, the other four players don’t just stay put; they relocate. For instance: corner player cuts to dunker spot, weak-side wing fills corner, big fills behind. This “wheel” or “carousel” of movement aims to reshape the floor rapidly.

Spacing and fewer set screens: Instead of heavy reliance on static pick-and-roll or many off-screens/handoffs, the Grizzlies tilt toward space + movement. One article: “They rank last in picks and last in handoffs but first in spot-up attempts and first in drives.

Again...maybe I'm remembering it wrong, but without Paolo isn't that exactly how we played? Felt like everyone was moving and everyone was involved.

IDK what game you were watching, but I didn't see anything like that. I saw the same offense we typically run, but just switched off to Bane and Franz. We do not have a motion offense in the slightest, we almost always camp both corners (which would be the opposite of a motion offense), so when they play good defense on our initial pick and rolls, we just ISO it, and sometimes we can break down the offense and find those guys, but mostly we just force it into a tough shot.

Offense does needs some tweaks for sure, it can't just be.... Hey run and see what happens.... Got to be some structure to it, though I will say an element of it for sure is a degree of unfamiliarity and really only time is the remedy

Yeah, this is my feeling too. Though Paolo needs to change his shot diet.

Never thought I would say this this far into Paolo and Franz career. But I guess I said it Paolos rookie season.

Paolo specifically either isn't getting plays called for him, doesn't want plays called for him, or straight up the coach isn't drawing up plays for him that isn't iso hero ball.

Franz + Paolo need to be minimum 33% 3-ball shooters for us to have success. Or one needs to become a near 40%. It can't happen with "just Bane".

Lastly, Suggs, might actually be our best offensive / defensive connector player. He feasts on 3-ball shot volume and gets turnovers that results in momentum building easy baskets. His 71% 3-ball will not hold up. But I can see it cooling off into 36%+ on volume. Combine that shooting with Bane and I think this sorts itself out.

The fact that we are 4 seasons into Paolo career and he doesn't have a single signature play to build his offensive tempo on is disgusting and a poor reflection on himself and his coach.

A lot of blame to go around. I don't think it's just one thing or person. Mosely could be better. We could do a better job of setting players up to score in their comfort zones. There's still a lack of movement in the half court. It's a problem that Bane has only attempted 4 catch and shoot 3's. Banchero should be getting the ball closer to the low block. I'm all for pace, but playing at that pace without a true point guard is just going to lead to a lot of turnovers. And it's really just a mask for a team that can't shoot and the league knows can't shoot.

I'm also not convinced that if you were building a team around Paolo and Franz, that this is the best mix of players to assemble. There's still no legitimate point guard on this team. Jones looks cooked. Black isn't a threat outside the paint. Carter, Isaac, Goga all clog the paint. As a result, there's a lack of space to do anything. While our best two players are best served going downhill and living in the paint. Defenses across the league are way too smart. You can't flip KCP for Bane and expect the league to all of a sudden change the way they defend the worst 3 point shooting team in the league.

They just ignore several players getting big rotation minutes. Wendell Carter Jr. and his defender are often in the way and clogging up any driving lane, or Carter is in a corner being completely ignored by while same defender just hangs back to block the paint. That's compounded when Anthony Black, Jonathan Isaac, and Goga Bitadze get in the mix.

Paolo also has to be better. He's settling for some really soft shots. I get that his driving lanes aren't there, but he can't bail the defense out with the shots he's choosing to take.

Collectively, guys have to be able to hit open shots also. Defenses don't trust any Magic player other than Bane to consistently beat them from 3. A lot of the 3's we miss are wide open. And playing as hard as they do on defense while playing with the pace they wont on offense is going to lead to some short shots a lot for a team that already struggles to shoot.

I don't know that Banchero would ever go for this, but if the Magic want to play at the pace they want to while switching everything on defense, they should consider him at the 5 to juice the offense at times. It's not a permanent solution, but it could help in spurts and create more more driving lanes, and maybe set shooters up for success a little more.

We scored only 15 points from jumpshots against Chicago, this is an incredible stat in the modern NBA, the last time this happened before in any NBA game was December 2023.

I think the pace isn't a fit with the team

our stars pay the three and four position. They are naturally heavier and slower. Expecting them to run a fast pace offense isn't realistic,

I've always believed that we should tailor our offense based on our stars.

Coach is part of the problem but not even the biggest problem.
I think no coach will build a good offense around Paolo. When you compare him to Doncic, Haliburton even Maxey its glaring. Yes he is big and coordinated so what ? When you actually think about his efficiency despite being so big and coordinated its looking really bad.
We will slow the offense and take it back 20 years to make not good enough offensive player happy ?... tough times ahead.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

I could see the Prunty experiment ending way before the Mose era.

Paolo is a nuclear weapon, Franz is extremely adaptable, Bane and Suggs can (at the very least) feast on open 3's...the coaching staff needs to work around these truths. Paolo is NOT going to become Jokic or Tatum or anyone else but he's way too talented to be blamed for this chaos. At this level, you don't simply "transform" an already elite talent into what you wish you had.
