One of these things is not like the other

He's no Wemby but you should watch him play. It's like he went into the hyperbolic time chamber over the summer.

I've watched virtually every Sarr minute in the NBA lol.

He can be better this year, and also not be in the same universe as guys like Wemby and Chet. To even compare him to those 2 is ridiculous unless the only thing you look at is body type.

Copied here from Mr.nate33

nate33 wrote:Sarr continues to be terrific this season. The per game averages don't really jump out at you because he has only played 25.3 minutes a game, but his per-minute production has been incredible. Through 3 games this season, Sarr's per 36 numbers are:

21.3 points
11.4 rebounds
6.2 assists
2.8 blocks
3.3 turnovers
1.9 fouls
.584 TS%

When you factor his defensive switchability, he is basically producing like prime Bam Adebayo, only Sarr is just 20 years old. Small sample size caveats apply, of course, but you gotta love it so far.

The total rebuild? Not great. They hung on to vets too long and didn't build up any sort of war chest.

The last 2-3 years? Ok. The young talent is starting to build back up. Given the draft classes and assets they had, they did about as good as you could hope. The problem is that "doing as well as you could" isn't the same thing as actually building a top team. They are going to have to stay bottomed out until they land a true #1 type guy to really start building around. I suspect they will fall into the common trap of "he's out best young player so lets build around him" , but that remains to be seen.

I just really hope they change these uniforms, i hate their jersey.
Tre Johnson will be great, Sarr hopefully keeps improving, is he a 4 or a 5? they have some good prospects, sure they lack a star still, but next offseason they could be looking to make moves looking to win with the current roster + their next pick

I loved Chet coming out, but Sarr will have played 2 full NBA seasons before his 21st birthday and Chet didnt even play in an NBA game until he was 21. That matters. Sarr is also a much better athlete and frame.

This image is comparing their first season in the league.

Better athlete and frame is irrelevant because Chet is just a significantly better player no matter which way you want to quantify it

it's possible to be both a fan and objective in your analysis

Correct. Chet missed his entire rookie season, so you are comparing a 21 y/o Chet to a 19 y/o Sarr.
Chet has been better than Sarr at almost everything, but they are different players. Chet is a better shooter and more physical, while Sarr projects as the more versatile defender, better creator/passer, and better athlete/frame.

What do you mean by better creator? Like off the dribble?

It’s not that I think Sarr is bad per se but Chet is wildly underrated if we’re comparing Sarr to him. I feel he’s better at every aspect of the game. Neither is particularly great on the perimeter but Chet is better as a primary interior defender and much better as a weakside helper.

Maybe I’m too high on Chet or maybe I’m too low on Sarr or both but to me he’s clearly tiers below Chet… and Wemby is such an insane comparison there’s just nothing to debate there

I'm personally excited about the Wizards, and I'd imagine their fans are also pretty optimistic (considering the history of the franchise). I think the current front office did a good job of putting together a mixture of younger players with key veterans. Replacing Kuzma and Poole (and Smart, in my opinion) with McCollum and Middleton seems like it was a smart move. And the young players all seem to have some serious upside while having already flashed. They don't have any major flaws and should be at least competitive, even if their record won't necessarily reflect it. This is the kind of roster building I would like to see if I was a Kings or Nets fan.

CJ is been absolutely horrendous to start the season. He looks slow and has been a complete chucker. Poole is easily a better player than him if you saw both. The only reason the Wizards did the trade was to get an expiring for Poole’s extra year. Otherwise, it was a huge downgrade on the court. CJ has been the tank general for the wizards so far. Maybe they get a future 2nd for an expiring in a potential trade, but I see buyout for him
