I didn't get why Flagg is so overwhelming favorite to win ROY. I love Flagg, but it will be a fight for sure. NoDunks did predictions few episodes back, and they touched how ROY does not have 65 game limit, and Skeets was like - how many games Flagg needs to play to run away with it, 50?

Like what? This rookie class is great, why everyone assumes Flagg will run away with it? I would not bet any one rookie against the Flagg, but I definitely take the field over Flagg, easily. And if I had to make prediction for one rookie other than Flagg for ROY, VJ would have been my choice. Kid is obviously super talented, I believe the main concern with him was finishing at the rim, that despite him being super athlete, his finishing ability was very poor in college. That stopped people from jumping gun and making Wade comps, because otherwise, you can see that comp, if he puts it together, he can be great. He already was often best player on a team with several NBA players when he was 17, I am talking about him playing in Bahamas jersey. Kid is no flash in a pan.

nick nurse is personally one of the best shooting coaches in the league and you can see his handiwork all over the association in looking at the mechanics of players who buy in after being with him for a while. Edgecombe going to be a problem.

Really early days to tell with VJ, but he's got full marks in the heart and hustle categories. Hope Maxey n nem's energy stay rubbing off on 'im. Keeping hoisting them 3balls young feller!

The kid was incredible on the opening game. His demeanor and story only add to my respect of him. Was beyond impressed.

I think it’s very possible that he can carve out a sneak attack ROY season if he keeps this going. He’ll have plenty of opportunity with Philly having $100m of dead weight on their cap.

Tonight should be another productive game for him against Charlotte.

I wanted the Spurs to pick him over Harper. I am very high on this dude. His college year in Baylor was a waste of everyone's time. Especially after we saw him in the Olympic qualifiers.

His second game impressed me as much as his first. If he’s going to contribute like this even when his scoring is repressed, he’ll be a great one in the near future. Looks like a home run for Philly to me.

Motor always gets underrated in the draft process somehow.

Philly has some depth in their backcourt. This includes Grimes. Maxey, VJ, and Grimes is something to be positive about.

They're not reporters anymore, they're pretty faces or brand influencers.

You can rarely watch an interview now where the host isn't just straight up reading off a note card & waiting for the talent to finish speaking so they can ask their next premeditated robotic question. It's one of my most major pet peeves. It's just so soulless and vapid.

If you ignore the Flagg hype he's honestly looking like the best player in this entire draft so far.

I didn't see this coming. Kid is so calm the game comes so easy for him.

100% He was supposed to be a hustle/glue/defensive guy with upside but he already looks like a ready made all-star type player. Sky's the limit with him.

That's not what our insiders on Portland sports radio were saying. They said VJ pre-draft was lock to be "that guy", Flagg was locked to be a day 1 pro, but also was considered to be that glue guy like a higher ceiling Andrei Kirilenko.

If all the rookie class stays healthy, VJ is gonna be ROY and it won't be particularly close.

Super impressed. He’s polished and is flying all over the court

He's certainly playing longer and looks longer than he measures.

Hence why I've been making Butler comparisons (despite VJ being 1.5" shorter) vs the more common Wade/Rose comparisons.

ROY.
Flagg looks like he has a lot of pressure.
Harper looks great but he isn't a starter.
Edgecombe will continue to be a starter and Philly isn't having any pressure because there are no huge expectations.

Flagg 16.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, .439 field, 100% frees, .333 downtowners
Edgecombe 24.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists, .463 field, .625 frees, .375 downtowners
Will be a very interesting ROY race.
