Is it time for PHI to finally move on from Embiid?
Edgecombe and Maxey are clearly the future and let's not forget McCain who would have been the ROTY last season if not for his injury.
The quicker they move on from Embiid, the better. Once he comes back, he will take shots away from the backcourt and producing very little in return.

Sure but they'll have to give up VJ or Maxey with him, nobody is taking that contract without it.

You can’t move on from him for this reason, the guy can space the floor and play defense. Now I get moving for cap reasons, or if you wanted to develop a young big for a later timeline, but for your guards to develop no way.

I was hoping and expecting this to be one of the first replies. You did not disappoint. Jroy have it all.

I think they already have, he just happens to still be on the team.
No one is touching Embiid, they're stuck with him. They just gotta do their best to move on buy with him still on the roster and taking more of a back seat / support role.

As others have said, they really can't. They'd have to give up value to trade away Embiid and that doesn't make a lot of sense for them. It's better that they keep him until his contract is up or he medically retires.

Medical retirement would be best case scenario.
Paul George is the contract that is even more problematic unless he's closer to medical retirement than we think.

I wonder if my Timberwolves would take a flyer…if they feel McCain could be their PGOF they need really bad.

If they could, 1000 percent. It would put an end to the miserable Process Era.

I thought they should of sold high when he won the MVP. Even at his best he didn't help his team in the post sesson.

Re: Is it time for PHI to finally move on from Embiid?
Their only hope is Embiid calling it quits and retiring. Otherwise they are going to have to ride out the next 3 seasons receiving little to no output from him.
The lucky part is that VJ looks to be producing at an all star level already and will be and will be paid $12 million per year during that contract. The Sixers really lucked out and now get to watch a Maxey & VJ duo for the next few years until they can make a move when Embiid is expiring.

the bar may be low because I started watching the sixers in 03. but the Embiid era has been the best sixers era that I've watched. There's a handful of teams that have had it much worse in the same timespan

Re: Is it time for PHI to finally move on from Embiid?
Embiid will earn $188,244,000 over the next three years. Who would take his contract if he can no longer jump?
If he can get his health back and not retire, it's better to keep him as a reserve or cheer guy on the bench.

Re: Is it time for PHI to finally move on from Embiid?
The contract is untradeable at this point.
If they can load manage JoJo and convince him he isn’t the main guy at The Sixers anymore and let Maxey run the show, it could still work out nicely for Philly i think.
I would continue to keep him on a minutes restriction (say 25-30 max) for the first half of the season and if touch wood he stays healthy, maybe give him more for second half of the season (don't play him on second night of back to backs either)

I have some empathy for you, especially with all the ups and downs the Raptors have had over the past 30 years. I still feel like there is a brighter future for Philly with your young backcourt. The only issue is, I don't trust Morey as a GM and I could see him bringing in another poor fitting "star" to ruin the chemistry even if you got Embiids off the books.

Does that mean stretching and waving Embiid because that is only way to move off of him

Nobody's taking on Embiid. $250 million left on a contract for a guy who's a shadow of his former self? The 76ers are stuck with that.
