Observations:

  • Dyson is indeed a menace in passing lanes and in isolation, but his screen navigation is noticeably terrible.
He's too big and strong to slide through.
  • Trae is great at screen navigation but useless in isolation defense.
  • There is a decent chance Hawks should have traded with SAS in the 2024 draft and just taken Steph Castle. His defense very early on is legitimately very encouraging.
  • Ayo Dosunmu should be a trade target if the opportunity arises.
  • Cason Wallace is a defensive menace. Missing out on him in that draft class still hurts.
  • Caris Levert was a really effective defender and scorer. Losing him is a real hit.

4 games n...we need to tighten up in all these areas above.

Trouble rebounding to end a possession.

Can Snyder field a good defense without Gobert

The Trae/KP PnR defense - no Bueno! Drop coverage
The JJ/KP PnR defense - no Bueno! Lack of and/or no communication between these two: too any times both players have gone with the screener leaving the ball handler open for an easy shot attempts. Talk guys!

Hawks are clearly deeper and more talented in the frontcourt, but still missing girth. KP brings height but does nothing for the teams lack of physicality

We have KP on the court for 25mpg this season.

I want that spent with Jalen Johnson or Onyeka Okongwu on the court with KP.

JJ/KP on defense has been AWFUL!
They both need to pick it up.

Let's see if anything changes with Trae Young out. Naw and Daniels should take some pressure off the Hawks frontcourt on defense.

It's not even about guard play with these 2 defensively. Put them in the big on big PnR, they are both going with the screener leaving the ball handler open, JJ gets beat baseline on post ups instead of sending his guy to the middle into help, drop coverage with KP is overall problematic as he cannot handle switches on the perimeter, they both don't get back adequately in transition (team problem as well), JJ gets caught flat footed too often and late with help, he should be getting more weakened blocks with his athleticism. In general he plays defense too upright, needs more bend in his knees.
