Right -- and is a 6'8" Bradley sort of like Artest? Not sure. I don't really like thinking or talking about Metta World Peace much. He always struck me as more like a linebacker playing basketball though. Hugo seems more fast-twitch like AB. Bradley peaked kind of early, and Hugo might too, but I'm keen to see it play out!

I suppose I was focusing on strength more. Artest was a good defender in his day. I do like your Avery comp better though for style of play. Hugo is a very sturdy and strong kid for 19. Imagine him mid 20s.

Oh certainly Artest is one of the best perimeter defenders I've ever seen. Pippen, Bradley, Rick Fox (strong Celtics bias:) -- Artest more of a bruiser is all I was trying to say.

Hugo is promising enough that I'm already returning to my 'trade Jaylen for a big' plans for the next title. JJJ or Giannis or maybe Bam but no way in hell Riley trades with us.

Brad says the plan is and has always been to surround the Jays with talent, and I've been all about that too, but Hugo's potential might unlock a different path while JT hopefully gets back to full strength over the next season or two.

I like seeing how a 19 yr old comes in, already with experience. I never liked that NBA 19 (nor 18) yr old limit.
Some of these Overseas Guys and even the (stateside) G League and Overtime League's are producing much younger Players.

It's hard to have a comp for Hugo because in Europe he was a 30% shooter from 3. If he can't get that up a bit, maybe a comp is Bo Outlaw or Jarred Vanderbilt? If he can become a league average 3pt shooter, then he could be wing Alex Caruso, maybe?

Keep in mind, that he barely got any playing time last season in Europe, as an 18 yr old on a stacked Real Madrid team.

Can't put much weight on those stats. Watching him shoot though, his mechanics are pretty smooth but the touch is hit or miss and because of that, will likely never be a great shooter but he's young and touch can sometimes be improved over time to an extent if you put in the work (plus our coaches seem good at improving our players' shooting) so I do think it's possible he'll eventually be respectable shooter.

Again, he was only 18 last season..so if we're comparing apples to apples, we'd look at Alex Caruso's freshman year when he only shot 26% from 3 and just 60% FT.

Bruce Brown..his 2 college seasons combined was just 31% from 3 and 70% FT. Josh Hart was just 31% from 3 and 67% FT as a freshman.

Dyson Daniels..he was on G league ignite during his pre-draft season and shot 30% from 3, 53% FT..

Hugo's shooting numbers at age 18 are about in line with those guys.



Outlaw and Vanderbilt are both PF/small ball 5's. Very different players than HUgo, who's a wing. Caruso has played quite a bit of wing, too..he's basically a 2/3, which is what Hugo is too.

He's a 19 year old rookie and his offense is still very much a work in progress. Seems like him, Minott, Baylor and Walsh..sometimes they'll play, sometimes they won't. They're back of the rotation guys..not regaular rotation guys who play every game. At least that's where things are at the moment.

Also it was the 2nd night of a back to back..so we had some guys play in the 1st game (like Hugo) whereas some guys sat the 1st game and played in the 2nd one (like Tillman)..

Good research.
A bigger Alex Caruso would be the ideal achievable outcome. Caruso was extremely impactful on two title teams.

This short season his shooting has looked better. During the summer league, he was sometimes splaying his legs out on the jumpshot and it looked very funky and probably the coaches have been streamlining his motion.

Still, Hugo has looked good to start the season.

It really could be like the perfect wing rotation.

You've got the Jays, who are stars, 2-way studs..then the sharpshooter, 3&D but limited in other areas Hauser. What's missing from that puzzle?

A Josh Hart type, who is more of a hustle, energy guy, can fly around, get after it on D, cut to the basket. Wreak havoc, grab rebounds..that's Hugo.
