Ownership should force him to not make any blockbuster trades or max FA signings. He's only allowed to draft and trade along the margins.

Hate the guy all you want, but when it comes to drafting and other non-gigantic moves, he's been elite.

The first question running through my mind while watching the Orlando game: Do we really have to play Embiid and George, or can we just somehow move them?

This is the most fun iteration of Sixers since the early Embiid/Simmons period, with the Harden full year coming in second only because Glenn was somehow still here. This group is a blast to watch - Maxey has become a bona fide leader, there is no ceiling right now for what VJ could turn into, Oubre looks reborn, and we've got a bunch of young guys that are balling. Hell, even Drummond looks competent.

We'll have a logjam at guard, as Maxey and VJ look like an elite backcourt already. When McCain returns, I wonder if we use him or Grimes in a deal for a 3&D guy or a stretch 5? Quite frankly, I like Grimes a lot as the third guard.

I think it's very unlikely Morey moves either of them this year unless Embiid had to retire.

I just discovered Hunter Sallis is Harden's cousin. I should've known better Daryl.

As I've projected Tyrese to become... "freaky lightning fast version of Steph Curry"...aka elite and the best type of offensive engine with spacing that can make guys better without touching the ball.

Future is bright... Again

We’d be a more fun and complete team once we integrate everyone. It’s one thing to play at this level, but sustaining it requires depth and pacing. The way we played against the Magic wasn’t sustainable, it demanded too much energy, and it’s hard to expect Oubre and VJ to keep scoring 20–25 points per game efficiently all season.

Ideally, we’d have all our guys available, playing at a high level and winning games while being able to shift gears depending on what’s needed to close them out.

Teams are pressing more and emphasizing extra possessions, which takes a lot of energy, another reason why having depth is so important.

It looks like we’ve found a way to play without Embiid. Now the challenge is learning how to play with him and George. Once we figure out that formula, we’ll not only be better but also a lot more fun to watch.

The 'new normal' appears like it's going to be Embiid as a 25 minute or so player who might not necessarily be in during crunch time. I like the way he is appearing to understand that this isn't his team any more, and is doing more as a contributor than as the alpha - at least that's what I got out of the WAS game last night.

Regarding George, if he can return as a highly overpaid 3&D guy off the bench and be happy in that role, then perhaps you're right and this might work. I still long for the day when he is gone.

The most interesting thing about last night's game is that with Embiid on the court in the clutch, they lose.

He makes neither the put back dunk nor the blocks Bona did, and without those they lose.

That's a fact with current Joel. This conversation has to be revisited in a few weeks though. If he still isn't moving better defensively consistently, because there are times when he does show defensive ability.... I'm still thinking he's not in shape to give effort when he's tired. I mean he's big and long enough and a smart enough defender to still be a quality run defender and man defender in the post specifically without leaping for contests with whatever brace he had on fire protection

Adem Bona is the only player on the roster with a positive DBMP...and it's only 0.6.
2025-2026 Philadelphia 76ers:

Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Edgecombe/Grimes/Gordon
George/Oubre/Edwards
Barlow/Watford/Walker
Embiid/Drummond/Bona/Broome

I hope you're right re:Embiid, but the way he whines about the minutes restriction makes me think he still plans to come back and play how he's always done it.

Embiid isn't only playing 25 minutes for the whole season unless he has a setback or he doesn't get better on defense and they need more rim protection, and even in this scenario I'm sure they'll give him a long leash before they would change course.

They already upped his limit restriction from 20 to 25 minutes after a week.

The problem is that even if Embiid returns to MVP form, if the team uses him in its customary manner he functions as a ball and chain on the team both physically and emotionally. You can't organize your team around a player who 1) can't fuction effectively as a closer, 2) regularly appears downtrodden and exhausted, and 3) can't make it through the playoffs healthy.

They need to transition him to becoming a bench player whose absence physically and emotionally doesn't affect the team significantly. Use him like teams used Lou Williams -- for some immediate scoring off the bench and not much else. That way if he's injured or downtrodden you've established the ability to win without him.

They should keep the restriction all year. The less wear and tear on the knees the better.

Most teams running multi-guard lineups and pressing higher on defense. Teams are emphasizing extra possessions, depth, and pace, all trying to mirror the Pacers and Thunder. Those who aren’t seems to be struggling like the Mavs and the Magic. This era plays right into our roster’s strengths. Like man.. even Drummond fits right in. The game’s cyclical nature is showing again, shifting from wing heavy to guard heavy basketball.

I do hope they keep him under 30 minutes all year and Nurse continues to go into mad scientist mode rather than whatever crap we've seen of him that past 2 years... And he tinkers around and finds the hot hand at all positions. I'm even including this with Maxey considering the guard depth. He's the leader, but I'm the rare case he's off and perhaps isn't making an impact defensively.... See if you can get more elsewhere with more size and better defense.

However, I love singing at Joelle can have big impact quarters where he gets 15 or 20 in a quarter, but most of all his health is important because it would be amazing to get the old Joel defense back. Even when he came back from the first surgery in the 24 playoffs he was a big time impact defensive. He also may not hustle for rebounds but he boxes out and clears space so that the team can rebound.
