The inability to take the 2 former category 3 guys together nerfs them quite a bit, as does the need to commit to 3 specific players. No flexibility depending on who drops anymore.
Technically, they do not need to commit to 3 players. They may select 2 non-category 1 stars and keep their options open for round 2 (although in this case I wouldn't take them at #1 anymore). The revisited rules make the game more unpredictable. Plenty of viable strategies for the vast majority of franchises.
