Re: PG: Bucks play hard and come back
For what it's worth, we started 2-2 the last 2 years as well
Not really worried about the offense. Basically everybody outside of Brunson and Mikal are playing way below what they've done the rest of their careers. For context, it's just those 2 and Kolek shooting above 40% from the field, we have as many guys (Hukporti, Hart, Yabu) shooting below 30%. That's definitely gonna just fix itself as time goes on
The only thing I'm concerned about long term is Hart killing the spacing, but that's much less of a problem when his role is 25-minute energy guy off the bench rather than 40-minute key starter.

Did you guys really think we were going to install a new offense and it would look good out of the gate? Start worrying if we look like this after 30 games.

3 rotational players out and Hart not really contributing much to this game. Last year I assume Brunson/Mikal/Hart/OG/KAT would have started with all of them playing 36-42 minutes, vets like Shamet and Clarkson would have gotten some minutes off the bench, Huk would have gotten a little time to rest KAT and Kolek wouldn't have played. We were playing a 6.5-8 man rotation in a similar position to start last year.
I can't imagine looking worse than they did yesterday outside of the 2nd quarter unless they decided to give Hart 40 minutes once again.

This is a much deeper team than last year so why weren't Kevin Mccullar, Pacome, Jemison and Diawara getting more minutes. Its game 4 and they are running Mikal into the ground already.

The record right now is really not that important, with that said, these 3 concerns I have that I’m not sure how they will be improved on if this team is really a title contender. The first one is KAT, forget about the adjustment period he’s referring to, but there needs to be serious doubt whether he can even be a #2 on a title contender. Next, Brown’s new system involves pace and shooting 3’s, did Leon really do Brown a disservice by keeping the roster intact to play a style I don’t think this roster is capable of playing. As I said in the heat loss and the bucks loss, I completely understand in the new nba analytics tell you to shoot 3’s and a lot of them, 54 vs heat 40 last night, so the style makes sense, but do they have the shooters to play it. Under 30% vs heat, 33% vs bucks. And many both games were good looks, so for those saying they will start to fall, I will ask again, will they? There are players on the roster that have shot decent % from 3 in their careers, but it’s a big difference to shoot over 40% from 3 on 4-5 attempts a game to shooting over 40% on 9-10. Also does this roster have enough athletes to play how Brown wants to play, and that specifically refers to KAT. Lastly, the Mitch status, specifically on defense, he’s the anchor, they need him to clog up the paint, and this injury management they are using in bull, he played 24 minutes in the first preseason game, the first half of game 2 and hasn’t been seen since.

Re: PG: Bucks play hard and come back
Not worried in the least.
New system takes time to acclimate to before you can fully judge it.
My one concern is KAT though he seemed to love Thibs system and thrived in it almost from the jump.
However him and Bridges have kind of switched roles in terms of odd man out so to speak. He was the only one kind of lukewarm of his praise of Browns system. He does not look good so far at all.
But in any event its still early. I want to see what this looks like 20-25 games in. Players will acclimate and Brown will make little tweaks. If it still looks bad then you can start to question Brown and/or the players.

Last years team had a period early on when they were raining 3s
High level 3 guys when on:
Brunson
KAT
OG
McBride
Decent 3 ball when on:
Bridges
Shamet
Yabusele
Kolek
That's 7-8 guys really.
I am not too worried here (just yet). Players are likely not shooting well because they are trying to figure out the sytem and are still kind of playing tentatively.

Knicks got to make this giannis trade happen. If you need to attach Mikal/OG along with KAT just freaking do it. Giannis went on a stretch in this game where he literally just took over by himself. Imagine we had that when Brunson goes to the bench.
Yeah but then we will have no wings.
If it was KAT for Giannis 1 for 1 plus picks that makes the most sense. Otherwise we will have Brunson/Giannis and nothing else.
I would trade Bridges and KAT for Giannis. I'm not giving them OG.

They just swapped Payne for Clarkson and Precious for Yabu and Sims for Diawara. The young players barely touched the court last year to gain any real on court experience so i'm not sure how much they actually improved. It's not any deeper. They were playing the entire starting 5 36-42 in close games in the same position last year. No one else played more than 35 this game and Brown still played a 9 man rotation despite missing 3 players from the rotation.
You can't pretend nothing has changed as far as the minutes

BT is right... and it's what I've been saying... KAT ain't it (you can't pair him with JB and expect to win a title). I get the Randle/DDV trade to preserve assets but we have to figure out a KAT trade by the deadline. If that means you have to do KAT, OG and whatever picks we have left for Giannis, you do it. There would be other teams that would probably like to get KAT (Hornets? New Orleans? WAS? POR?) and we'd be able to get multiple pieces. But, first, we have to revive KAT's value so he should rest until he's healthy.

It's really not fair for guys to pile on KAT when he's clearly injured and he played at an all-star level last season. He's not trash... he's just playing like trash right now.

We’d still have 1 wing left though. And you can find any 3 and D wing for cheap nowadays.

People have their agendas and won't stray away from them. Kat is a flawed player - everyone knew this. Nobody expected a coach to "fix him" in year 11 - the hope is rather to maximize his strengths etc but this system doesn't seem like a great fit for him, or at least he isn't buying in the way we would have hoped (unless it is just the injury limiting him etc). It's confusing the offense is supposed to be fast paced but plan was to start Kat and Mitch? Doesn't add up.
So far this season only Brunson (but only averaging 5 assists) and Bridges are really playing well. And maybe throw in Deuce (but only 2 games). But almost all of the blame is going to Kat right now.
OG is putting up 14 on 37/32 - 51 TS - and his defense has been nothing special. He gets paid 40 mil this season and 42.5 next year. That is looking like an untradable contract if he doesn't improve dramatically.
I haven't seen his name mentioned at all though. People treat him like he's some role player when he's the 2nd highest paid guy on the team. I never liked the contract and thought it was an overpay from day 1. When we traded for him the rumor was he was going to take a pay cut to sign with NY in the ball park of 25-30. Then dude signed essentially a max contract. His contract is a major reason the team is up against the apron.

I’m actually pretty surprised about Kat’s post struggles but I am just basing it on that one game a bunch of years ago when he demolished us in post ups and had what felt like 50 points.
