Current Trade Market: Top 5 Point Guards Available
Who are the top 5 point guards who could be acquired via trade right now? This seems to be the most common need across the league this year.

Re: Current Trade Market: Top 5 Point Guards Available
Not going to guarantee they'd be gettable, but these are the best names in descending order of likelihood (of being available):

                        - Lamelo: I don't think he's the current Hornet's management archetype.
- Derrick White: Great role player some value as a star, Celtics should consider selling high (like they did with Smart) before he starts declining.
- Trae: Do the Hawks want to pay him? I'm pretty sure they'd consider any serious proposal
- Ja: awesome talent, but Grizzlies might be fed up after all the injuries and drama.
- Garland: if things don't work out this season, he may be the Cavs preferred trade chip to turn their fate around.

I don't think both White and Pritchard are traded but I expect one to be traded.

Interesting. I don’t think either is traded unless the Celtics upgrade seriously somehow. Both are on team friendly contracts and great fit for the Cs.

I mean, Derrick White is paid probably what is expected of his pay--exceptional glue guy, sub-allstar making, but entering his early 30s.
I think that trading White makes sense because it gives Boston a mini-reset.

Maybe…I think it depends what they could get back. I am not sure they are really looking g for a mini reset. They want to put the best team possible around Tatum in his prime. White has some good years left so he fits that timeline. That said…sure if they could get a good player back that provides the same positive impact that White does then maybe they consider a trade .

It's extraordinarily unlikely the Cavs trade any of their core 4 players in season, if for no other reason, they should trade 2 of the 4 if they decide to break up the team.

Trae Young is gettable if you want to pay the price and you are willing to pay him.
Suggs could be moved if Magic need to make a change I believe, even if he is more of a combo guard than pure PG. I believe he can thrive in a team that is properly built, Magic right now look like they don't fit in together

I have zero doubt DeAaron Fox is available, but they would never announce it

Spurs would never trade Fox months after demanding to be traded to the Spurs and signing an extension, at least not without him asking for it. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't know the first thing about the Spurs.

Re: Current Trade Market: Top 5 Point Guards Available
Why are people bringing up Fox? He can't be traded until basically the deadline. So there's no benefit to pregaming trades. You don't just assume that young players are going to be consistent for 100-plus games of regular-season and playoff basketball. The team has been lucky that they've gotten enough fire power out of Fox, Castle and Vassell to cobble together supporting scoring around Victor. That may not last forever. Fox solidifies that scoring ability, and the strategy the Spurs have been showing on both sides of the ball works just as well with Fox's skill-set.
All this ignores injuries. There's just no sense in the Spurs having talks with that at this point. RGmers often assume real GMs think like they do and mostly view roster contraction as commodities trading. Very few front offices take that approach.

If the GM calls in Wemby and says we have an offer for Fox that I think will make the team better and give you a better chance at winning now…he will say yes.
And while it would be some level of the Spurs getting mud on their face, pissing off Fox, pissing off whomever represents Fox, etc.
No one would really care long term. It would be old news within a years time at most. And every other GM, player, executive, rep, etc would understand why it happened and not hold a grudge against the Spurs longterm.
If they can make a good trade to put the pieces around Wemby they will. And I think it’s exactly because of who the Spurs are and what they have in Wemby. He’s a force and one sub almost allstar player traded after being traded for is not going to diminish the Spurs reputation.
Teams and players don’t have loyalty. It’s almost non existent in today’s NBA. It’s the GM’s job to build the best team. And if trading Fox means getting Wemby help sooner I’d be shocked if they didn’t make a move.

Side note... is it just me or has Cason Wallace gotten worse each year? Small sample size this season, obviously, but his shooting is atrocious.

I don't know if trading Fox is an answer, but I do see that windows of opportunity tend to close far quicker than most fans expect. Maybe the Spurs are at least a year away regardless of what they do, but I'm not so sure. I would be doing everything I could to accelerate Wemby's timeline at this point.

You want argue why Spurs should do that, type away. If you're trying to come up with realistic scenarios, don't bother wasting your time. Spurs don't run their franchise like Danny Ainge would, they often talk to their own players and vet destinations even when they do trade a player they value, like Dejounte Murray or Derrick White. Just imagine if they'd do that to a player who just forced his way into the team.
Bottom line, speculate all you want for fun but Spurs won't trade Fox in the near future unless something drastic happens, like Harper basically becoming SGA overnight and forcing Fox himself to ask out. Much more likely he plays at least 2/3 years for the Spurs, and gets traded before Castle and Harper's rookie extensions kick in, until then forget it.

Harper has played well with Castle and I can't see why Fox/Castle and Fox/Harper lineups can't work. I'm not convinced Harper/Fox/Castle lineups will be great, but I don't think that's a high minute rotation. I don't see the value in trading Fox right now.
