Malone scares me a bit. I like him but he played Westbrook an awful lot and seemed to be more concerned with being a player's coach than a truth teller like SVG or Thibs.

These guys wear off their welcome quickly too if it doesn't result in wins.
Malone has ripped his players a lot in public tbh

While just ignoring the reality that the players just aren't as good as you think they are and that things don't fit in a way that maximizes your highest paid players who once again aren't as good as you think they are.
The great coaches get players to buy in and adapt to the team's needs. The great coaches marry "how to win in today's league" with "what tools do I have at my disposal" and they cook up a system that fits players abilities to the formula for winning.
In Orlando's case, I don't think there's a skill shortage (albeit we don't have a classic PG). In other words, the toolbox is relatively full.
But the end product is poor because the coach doesn't know how to get the player collective to mesh in a winning way. Individual players aren't adapting well, nor is the gameplan they're adapting to the best for the team.
That doesn't absolve players. They have to be the ones adapting. But it's square peg round hole stuff all over the place.

And that is where the disagreements come in. If your expectations are that this team has a bunch of really good players than yeah sure you will end up blaming external factors namely the coach when **** goes wrong.
I disagree with that premise. I don't think the star players are as good as everyone here thinks and they certainly aren't the cleanest fit which exacerbates the issue, so the idea of just blaming the coach doesn't resonate with me.
I just think its a circular thing, draft some young players with promise, get overly hyped, team rushes and starts to go for it all, **** doesn't work, blame the coach/inconsequential role player. Its every single team with decent young players.
The reality of the situation to me is the Anthony Black-Jett Howard draft killed any shot of this iteration of the team winning a championship. You can't miss on two lotto picks when your star players have holes in their games and are kind of redundant. You needed to hit on at least one and they bombed both picks.

I would endorse this. Thats the kind of move that'll really have an impact. She'd bring everything she learned with pop which was a good blend of both offense and defense. She was a hell of a player and I think this newer generation of players would respect her.
