On one side Kon is off to a historically good start from shooting and is already the best if not only pure shooter on the team. He has shown more confidence than comparable prospect like Duncan Robinson and Kennard while also not getting played off the floor like Shepherd.
On the other hand he does appear to be just a shooter atm which would limit his ceiling a bit. More on ball creation/propensity to getting to the line would make me go from content with his play to absolutely hyped by it.
I also think Miller's injury is making people put a lot of eggs in the Kon basket. If Miller is legit gonna be a permanent street clothes guy then we need our 4th pick this year to be closer to prime Klay Thompson than Duncan Robinson to soften the impact.
Overall I think we are only 4 games into the season and I find it hard to be unsatisfied with Kon's play especially in comparison to other rookies right now. Only VJ is sitting at the top of the mountain. Kon has looked as good if not better than the rest and that includes two guys I would have taken over him Tre and Ace.
He's shown flashes so far, should get more touches while Brandon's out.

But your critiques don't feel constrained by reference to things I actually say, so sorry you feel like I have said these things.
FWIW, I responded to your point about that last play with Kon because you cited it as an example of bad defense by Kon, or I guess more specifically, evidence that his defense "isn't all fine and dandy." He barely did anything at all in that play, it's simply not an example of bad defense.
Reasonable minds can definitely differ on proper defensive technique and positioning when pursuing a defender off a screen while in drop defense, it's very common for coaches to say to maintain close contact with the driver from behind ("make them feel you") and force them to either pull up or go into the drop defender. That's routinely how we play defense in that scenario. Stop the play 3 seconds in and you see that our defense is very well positioned to contain the drive and recover:
Even ignoring this, I just don't understand the cognitive dissonance in criticizing Plowright for posting a random clip from Kon, then you are basically doing the exact same thing. Like do you not see that happening? What is the distinction there in your mind? These random examples from very small portions of just one game don't do anything for me, for what I believe is the exact same reason that Plowright's post did nothing for you.
I posted the play not because it was bad defense by Kon. You are right he did nothing. I posted the play because you specifically made a point that teams weren't targeting or hunting him. Yet on the most important play in the game, they had Kons player set the screen to force the switch. Over Tre Mann and LaMelo who were both on the floor. That seems noteworthy to me and would indicate that teams are hunting the switch with Kon.
I feel like I have made that clear in several posts on why that play was posted and it wasn't just simply a random play I posted for **** and giggles.yosemiteben wrote:[
- defensive effort - at this point I don't see him as a defensive liability on ball, which was something I expected during his rookie season. Teams are not hunting him in mismatches and trying to go at him, and small sample size notwithstanding to date he has not hurt us on defense.
"Here are two clips that show his defense isn't fine and dandy"
Then you post that final play clip as one of your two examples. I'm not exactly putting words in your mouth here.
But whatever, it's fine, you must have not meant that that was an example of a problem with his defense. Probably didn't give it a lot of thought, that's fine. The whole point is undermined anyway IMO by the fact that you're engaging in a Plowright-style "see, here's a random clip" exercise to make a point.
I really don't know how to explain it any clearer, not sure why you are being so dense to not be able to understand it. You seem to just be regurgitating the same things over and over, some obsession with bringing up Plowright in every single post lol
I posted clips specifically based on your claims. Hence off ball, screen navigation, not hunting him... all claims you were saying Kon was excelling at. I showed an example of each of those. I didn't pull random clips out of a hat, they were in response to your post of grand claims.
I am not sure what you want me to do lol. Is 4 clips not a good sample size? Do you need me to find 25 clips just to appease you on a message board?
At this point, I guess we will need to see. My main point is that 4 games is stupid small sample size to start to try make big gestures about his defense is now good. Hence me making fun of a stat that shows opponents shooting% when he is close through 4 games is beyond stupid.
I know everyone is in a big rush to crown Kon some stud, heaven forbid 4 games isn't enough for me to be convinced he was absolutely a steal of the draft lmao. Especially when the thing he is doing well is 100% unsustainable to shoot 55% from three.
What is funny to me is that the first game or two Kon struggles half the people will change their tone on him on the board, we live in a world where we have to overreact to 1 or 2 games even though the season is 82 games lmao.

Several of the things we have discussed regarding spacing and court awareness impacts are mentioned in here. Author may read the forum, lol. But, it is a good, short article.

I have brought up the Plowright example because IMO it shows the hypocrisy of you doing the exact same thing that you criticized him for, yet refusing to acknowledge it or distinguish it despite my bringing it up and asking you about it repeatedly.
JMAC3 wrote:I am not sure what you want me to do lol. Is 4 clips not a good sample size? Do you need me to find 25 clips just to appease you on a message board?
No 4 random clips is obviously not a good sample size. With that said, I don't need clips, I watch the games (as I believe you do although ITT I don't believe you specifically said you do). We have differing opinions, that's well and good and should be expected.
JMAC3 wrote:At this point, I guess we will need to see. My main point is that 4 games is stupid small sample size to start to try make big gestures about his defense is now good.
That's fine and a fair point if we're pointing to stats. I'm saying, when I watch, I generally see good defensive instincts and better defensive performance than I expected.

Not really interested in what other people say or your predictions of how that will change. I won't change my opinion unless I observe him struggling, in which case yeah I'll note that his performance has changed.
