If the Hornets continue to struggle and they are not in the playoff picture come trade deadline I think they will finally trade LaMelo.

Something is telling me they are trying to change the culture more than anything.

I mean this is kind of what I was saying a lot last summer. I think this is the make or break season for him With this franchise. If this team ends up tanking the last two months of the season for a top five pick, i'm just not sure how you justify running it back with the same core. My prediction has always been that he won't be on this roster come this time next year. And it sucks that we'll probably never know what could have been with him surrounded by quality healthy win Now teammates Also being healthy himself.

I think the front office really needs to pick a direction In the next draft. Either you cash in on some of those draft picks and put some legitimate quality Depth around him, while also hopefully ditching Miles. Or you find the best trade you can get for him either at the deadline or in the offseason and you start over.

I just don't know that he can be a consistent day in/day out leader. He very well could go to the Spurs/Warriors/Lakers/Celtics and look like a superstar because of the structure in those places and clear pecking order. Unless we get a Towns/Edwards situation I think we go as the inconsistent LaMelo goes.

I was saying that previously, they inherited this team and want to build it their way. There have been quotes where only Miller was listed as untouchable. I would not be surprised at all if Lamelo is traded unless he looks like he can lead this team into the playoffs.

It sucks because he's really talented.

But at some point we have to start winning games. If he doesn't fit the culture just move on. In a loaded draft this would be the perfect time to get possibly another lottery pick for LaMelo if we can.

Game 5, 2-3 and we're already on the "trade LaMelo" discourse? Team is unwatchable without him, so we need to try building around him instead of expecting a 24 year old talented PG to carry a poorly constructed roster where the next best 5 guys are rookies and Colin Sexton. The answer is to (right now) go out and get that second star to put next to LaMelo.

The events of this so far if anything have made me less interested in trading LaMelo. Thats a move you do when you are tapped out of resources to build around your star. They still have tons of chips they haven't used and have the capacity to make a lot of moves to improve the team around LaMelo. LaMelo has been playing really well and they still have plenty of other options to pursue to acquire players, so I see no reason to trade LaMelo and set the timeline back even farther.

I'm not saying trade him right now.

We address this at the trade deadline. You guys keep saying the same thing every year with LaMelo. It's clear we don't have the stability or roster construction to build a legit playoff team around him.

If Miller continues to be injury prone this team is going nowhere for the foreseeable future. If they trying to change the culture then that tells me LaMelo isn't really someone they believe in.

LaMelo is his own man. He's not the serious/leadership kind of player the front office is looking for. So if we keep losing I don't see why we would continue trying to rebuild around LaMelo.

All this could change if they start winning.
