So what is the league investigating that the FBI wouldn't have access to? I know there's a difference between illegal and against NBA policy, but you have to imagine the two sides were working hand in hand and have access to the same evidence. Do NBA investigators have a once a month meeting or something? This is getting ridiculous. NBA investigative team is a joke anyway, just a reminder that they CLEARED Rozier to play and FBI found plenty of evidence against him. Edit: Not sure on how trustworthy it is but apparently an inside NBA source says their internal investigation found nothing on Beasley (who willingly turned over his phone), but they are deferring to FBI and will only close the case once the FBI definitely states he is no longer a person of interest (I mean, that could be years, this operation has been years in the making). Which just seems like another Detroit vs Everybody thing because Rozier was cleared to play by NBA when his federal investigation was still ongoing, not Beasley though, of course.

Yeah its honestly kind of strange. Beasley handed his phone over to the NBA. The FBI investigation that just got out didn't mention him anywhere in it. Obviously there is some reason why a ton of money was bet on his under prop bets but it could be as simple as him telling someone he wasn't feeling good, etc and they took that info and ran with it to sports bettors. He came out and played good that game and all the bettors lost money so that doesn't seem too much like any proof unless you have some other level of proof against him it seems like the NBA should conclude its investigation "unless more evidence comes forward in the future" etc.... I think the NBA has had so much bad press lately with the Clippers cheating and FBI arresting a coach and player that overall it seems like the last thing they want to do is have Beasley come back in if he's just going to get arrested later in the year for something.

Yeah that's a good point. Very well could be he just let something slip like "I'm not feeling good" or "I'm in the coach's doghouse" and not necessarily "I am purposely going to score the under". Not like Lebron is under investigation for slipping to Damon Jones that he wasn't playing. And yeah I think the NBA's internal team looks so bad that they couldn't find Rozier evidence or even knew about the Chauncey stuff, that they're just saying, "Screw it, have the FBI make the call." They don't want to be embarrassed by clearing an alleged criminal again.

Exactly... Maybe a friend was over his house a few hours before he had to leave for a game. They're hanging out, and Malik hurts his leg in his presence. Or has diarrhea. Or maybe they go to dinner and when they're done Malik remarks, "Man, I don't feel good. I don't think they cooked that steak right". And this friend goes out and tells his people. Are players not allowed to speak? I don't think so.

If you want him back (I think almost everyone does, especially after the start to this season), you have to be encouraged by the language both sides are showing. Beasley talking about missing time with the boys, losing his jersey number, putting #DetroitBasketball. Sounds like in his mind he's still a Piston. And from a Pistons standpoint, still having an opening roster spot, despite being insanely thin at guard right now with no sasser, levert, and Ivey. Really the only negative is the Jersey number thing, which you can't super fault the Pistons for prioritizing current players over potential players.

The problem is that SOMEONE fairly close to beasley appeared to be passing info to organized gambling rings. And yes, players are absolutely not allowed to speak about their or their teammates availability for games, injuries etc. It's part of the annual NBA gambling training players get.

Beasley is a prime example of why that is prohibited. Even if they player isn't proved directly involved in it, any hint of them being associated with betting on their own game is going to destroy their reputation and potentially cost them millions. And even if he gets back into the league, any time he has a bad game or leaves with an injury, there will be a scrutiny. Whoever was the guy leaking really screwed beasley over hard.

The problem is that SOMEONE fairly close to beasley appeared to be passing info to organized gambling rings. And yes, players are absolutely not allowed to speak about their or their teammates availability for games, injuries etc. It's part of the annual NBA gambling training players get.
