Leo called out Barnes maturity and it’s crazy we’re still talking about this 5 seasons in. Here’s the thing, is statistically Barnes was actually been playing great. He’s hitting 3s, he’s scoring super efficiently. But mentally he’s still doing things like trolling with a look back on a fast break dunk attempt. Can you imagine a guy like Lowry or kawhi doing that? It’s unprofessional man. These guys need to take this **** serious if they wanna win games.

I find my interest in Raptors and my interest in the NBA kind of goes hand-in-hand. I don't have the time or energy to expend into the league as a whole like I used to, so if the Raptors are not good I just don't care to.

That being said, I feel like once the Jays are done here (AFTER TONIGHT PLEASE) I will get back into it a bit more.

Like others have said though, the league just keeps shooting itself in the foot. No one wants to see 139-129 games regularly. Let the guys play some defence, stop bailing out offensive players on garbage fouls, and the league will correct itself organically. A 50 point game is fun, but only if a 50 point game is a rare occurrence. It would be like if hockey games always ended 7-6. Sometimes a 1-0 game can be more exciting than a 8-7 back and forth affair.

Probably just nostalgia talking, but I miss when hitting 100 points in an NBA game was not a given. Go back only 10 years to 2024/25 and only half the league averaged 100ppg. Then there is the load management garbage and all that as well. I really think the NBA could benefit greatly from a 40-minute game.

- Less minutes for players which means less need for load management
- Shorter game means every basket means more
- Less minutes = more ability to give full effort.
- Todays pace and 3pt shooting would mean the average game would still be ending with 98 points, which is completely in line with the last 2 decades from 1995 to 2015 before the 3 point / pace spamming occurred in the last 10 years.

Still my biggest issue with Barnes. The guy has zero ability to stay grounded.

You can even see when he hits a 3 pointer - he immediately chucks another one up within a few minutes. Sometimes he hits a few in a row (like Wednesday), but usually the next is just a horrible brick. Or when he flexes on Giannis, then tries to body up arguably the strongest guy in the league on consecutive possessions.

And on the other hand, whenever a ref makes a bad call or if he misses a bunny or if something goes wrong he just sulks and then he floats and looks disinterested.

There is a hell of a player within Barnes, but I worry he will never become it. IDK if it is immaturity. I legitimately think he might just be a dumb guy.

What did Leo say? I actually agree with him a lot more these days I think his experience and probably down graded role at the network allows him to speak more freely these days.

We been through this with Vince Carter who was like ten times more talented so the patience went far until Babcock gave him away. I don’t think I have the stomach for several years of waiting for Scottie to stop sulking when he simply misses a shot or doesn’t get fouled and walks back on defense.

I feel the same way. It's not "basketball" though. It's the NBA. The product is terrible. They can't figure out how to manage games with a good balance of offense and defense. Too many whistles. Too much bias as well........it just makes it frustrating to watch.

I bet if Olympic basketball was going on (with FIBA rules & refs), you would find it exciting again. More competitive.

I am lucky that my son plays, so I get excitement from basketball in other ways.

I also try to attend non NBA basketball events. It helps give me perspective on the game of basketball. It also gives me perspective on the NBA. What it is & what it isn't.

CEBL, NCAA, Team Canada.....even Canadian University ball. I think watching these gamea grounds you a bit. You get to see some highly competitive games where players are leaving it all on the court for the pure love of the game. No entitled millionaires. Just guys playing basketball because they love competing & playing hard.

The whistles have been awful. Makes it really hard to watch. The way the game was officiated in the 23-24 playoffs (could been the year before that but I think I’m correct) was the best version of the modern nba officiating wise. Teams were allowed to play defence without a million foul calls while still allowing for great offensive play. The balance is def off right now.

Will avoid spoilers and watch the full game when I get home.

Allen being out is huge.

It'll be interesting to see CMB guard Mobley. I think he'll do very well.

Bold prediction: Raptors win tonight.

Going to be a tough decision tonight. Watch the Jays win the World Series for the first time in 32 years with a bunch of likeable underdog blue collar players that never gives up? Or watch the no defense, no pressure, lost and confused Raptors get blown out again tonight. Tough choice.

The whole Scottie/looking back on fastbreak dunks is blown out of proportion.
He's been doing it since his high school days. Let him be himself.
It's such a non-issue.

It’s an issue when they’re losing and maturity comes into question and he’s still doing it 5 seasons in. Actually your statement sums it up. He’s been doing it since high school… he’s not a kid anymore and there’s certain things you grow out of because it’s just stupid and immature and disrespectful. There’s some things we shouldn’t be doing when we get older because we realize these things are childish. So yes this is a problem.

Considering Steven Adams just destroyed us, I shudder to think what Mobley is about to do.

However, Mitchell and Allen are questionable, and Garland and Strus are out, and Merrill (starting this year) is also out. IDK how much solace I will take in beating a starting lineup of Mobley + Hunter + Jaylon Tyson + Lonzo Ball + idk who else will even start.. Dean Wade?

I feel like you severely underate the appeal of GAME 1 OF THE NBA CUP.

It isn't like the MLB schedule isn't known for months. How could the NBA ever have known there might be a world series game tonight?

I swear to god - the NBA is the biggest group of idiots in the world. They constantly just make their product worse, and even when they have an interesting idea (NBA Cup), they implement it in the stupidest way possible.

I'll take any win we can get right now lol. Would like to see Scottie out play Mobley, I know he thinks about that matchup. I would also be interested in seeing how CMB would do defending Mobley, that thickness and physicality could give him problems, but I wonder if the length is just to much for CMB. I hope Jak is still sitting for this one.

Prepare yourselves for a blowout loss, hopefully jays come through. If the raps win then I'd be pleasantly surprised.

This team is not it currently they gotta fix up some bad habits. Leo Rautins made some good points about certain players I hope they listen.
